Weepy cat eyes

We just got a new kitten and it has that weepy looking stuff in its eyes.  I read online to make a solution of about 200ml (about 6 1/2 cups) of water and 1 T of boric acid.  Boil for one minute.  Let it come to room temperature then instill 2 drops in each eye twice a day.  I'm hoping this works but any other natural cures known would be appreciated.

This could be caused by just about anything from an infection to irritation from a foreign object. If it were my cat, I would take him to the vet to rule out infection or if it is, get antibiotics before trying anything I found on the internet.

Since it is both eyes, i would have the cat checked out. could be somthing simple like allergies or clogged tear ducts.  But weepy eyes can be a sign of a more serious problem - respiratory infection (can be quite serious in cats).  Is kitty's nose running? is he sneezing?

needs to be seen by  a vet and kept away from other animals until it has a clear bill of health good luck

     I have used some wet Q-tips or cotton *bleep* to clean and clear their weepy eyes.

i agree you should take it to the vet but if you can't do that take it back to the place you got the kitten from or i have had cats like that and what i did was take a warm wash cloth and rub the eyes softy to get the gunk out

How old is the kitten?  Where did you get it from?  What were it's former living conditions like?  Are there any other symptoms?   

I'm all for natural cures.  Not only do vets cost money, but the conventional medicine vets can be worse than people doctors.  Antibiotics are over-precribed for pets as well as humans.  I've got many tales about how they've been wrong, unprofessional or did things to my pets without my consent.   

Often adopted kittens and pups get over these minor things just by enjoying improved food and living conditions.  My cats are proof of that.  My siamese pair had crusted eyes, fleas and ear mites.  The boy also had a respiratory condition, which did get a week of penicillin before I took them in.  I plucked off the fleas and treated the ear mites with olive oil, according to the instructions in "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats" by Dr Pitcairn.  The female was 1.2 pounds and is now 8 pounds, while here brother was .6 pounds and is now a compact 10 pounds.      My tuxedo males were malnourished and were loosing their fur due to bird mites, from a mourning dove their feral mom brought down.  Improving their diet and living conditions was all I did.  They both have beautiful thick coats now.  They weigh 9 and 12 pounds.      Previously I took in a family of cats.  The mom had worms and only spent the winter in my home.  Everywhere she slept or sat there were dried, dead worm segments that she expelled.  Her coat went from coarse to smooth and she put on weight, just from improved living conditions for a few months.   

Keep an eye on your little one.  Help them keep their eyes clean by wiping them with olive oil on a soft cloth.  Feed them the best natural food you can and they'll probably outgrow the teary eyes.  Watch for additional symptoms, but if they're playing, eating well and growing steadily don't worry.  Look for Dr Pitcairn's book, it's a great resource and see if you have a holistic vet in your area, before you really need one.

The kitten was a barn cat and her mother was hit by a car.  I already have 3 cats but I felt sorry for it and brought it home.  I don't have a lot of money for vets and try to treat with natural meds when I can find them. 

I too think antibiotics are over prescribed but this poor baby has worms and that gunky eye that cats get.  I am treating her with an antibiotic that we purchased at Tractor Supply, I've wormed her (and my other cats) and am still treating her eyes with the boric acid wash.  Hoping and praying for the best.

The book you mentioned sounds like a good goto book to have around.  I'll look for it and thanks for the tip on the olive oil.
