Honesty when shopping

If you were putting away your purchases at home and found that you were not charged for something, would you insist on paying for it?

I would not go back to pay for it... mistakes happen and sometimes I pay for them, sometimes the store pays for them... it's not really that big a deal...

I suppose it would depend on the item that was not paid for. I know accidents happen on both sides, so if it was something small I would not pay for it. However, if it was something expensive I would make it right. Otherwise, I would feel guilty about it!

Have to agree with the last post.  If it was a cheap item, no, but if it were something expensive, yes.

Insist? No, but I would call the store and let them know about it.
And the next time I was in the store, I would talk to the manager and at least offer to pay for whatever it was.

If it were something small from the grocery store I wouldn't worry about it; there have been several times when I got home from the store to realize the clerk left a bag on the checkout stand that didn't get into my cart. I can only remember it ever working out in my favor once. I did walk out of Costco once with a swim suit draped over my arm with my purse (I had been in a hurry sorting through them to find the right size),  checked out and had the person checking out receipts sign me out. Didn't notice it until I got the to the car. I returned it the next day and they were kind of shocked.

Depends on the product. If it were, say, a 20$ item, of course. If it was a cheap candy bar, probably not. Even if I called it in or took it back, I imagine they would say to just keep it for free.

Not too long ago I had that very thing happen to me:  I went to Walmart and ended up with a pack of index cards that I did not intend to buy and sure enough had not paid for;  they were in the seat part of the buggy as I had intended to put them back before I checked out but forgot to do so.  I found them when I went to put my bags in the car but was in such a rush and had frozen items I needed to get home with, that I just kept them for 2 weeks till I made another trip to Walmart.  I turned them in at Customer Service and I honestly think the lady that took them back was shocked that I had returned them.  I don't want anything I haven't paid for as that is stealing in my opinion even though I did not intend to leave the store with them.  My daughter was impressed I took them back so I felt good about setting the right example for her.

mistakes happen both ways it would depend on what the item was and how expensive it was since I have travel a good distance (25 or so miles) many times I have left a store without an item I paid for cause they did not bag it or they over charged so it would just depend ............

Yes. I have several times that i was not charged enough for items, and could not lways get back to the store to pay for or return them. Once i had bout severl boxes of itilian sasuge and relized the had onl chared me for 9 boxes and i was already a hundred miles away going to a fair. When we got back home i went in and showed them my reciept and paid for the other box. The were so nice and gave me a 10% discount for the whole order. As i had put it all on my charge account. Now today another story. Hubby and i went shopping at Walmart after dr. appointment. When we got home i found a 5lb package of ground beef was not in the cooler. Dufus did not load it into the basket becaue i paid for it. $17.00 down the drain and he wonders why i don't like to take him shopping.

If it was for a small amount I probably would have forgotten about it by the next time I was at the store.  If it was a fairly large amount I would tell them the next time but I wouldn't make a special trip.

I almost always check my receipt unless i'm buying 2-3 things, once after I was done shopping and was putting my stuff in the car.i came across a couple bags of things I hadn't bought like ice cream and frozen Chinese food .so I took them back in the store I hadn't been charged for them crossed my mind to just take them .then remember if it was me i'd be mad returned the items some good ice cream though.

Nope.
One time I thought that I did not get the correct change back and I did not realize it until I was out of the store. Well I went back in to confront the person and it came to be that I was given the correct change. I had spend it before leaving the store and did not remember doing so. I was very embarrassed.
