Home grown Tomatoes
« on: May 07, 2013, 12:58:47 pm »
I just recently purchased a tomatoe Plant from my grandaughter's school (fundraiser). Some of the things they now sell for fundraiser's are weird. You had a little pod that you soak with water and put it into a bag that you add seeds too. The bag is silver foil on the inside and brown paper on the outside. The seeds started sprouting in about 5 days. They grew in this bag very quick, within about 3 days of seedlings growing they were ready for transplanting. I had about 20 plants but, only 4 lived through the transplant. I never saw this type of growing of seeds before and made it very hard to transplant the seedlings from the bag.

My dad has been growing tomatoes for years. He plants around 60 plants and my mom makes tomato sauce.

My favorite food, have 4 plants ready to go into the ground and will have 3 more here soon. Also will plant mild jalapanos and cucumbers. This year i am not going to have a big garden. Will be buying all other vegs at the farmers market. That way i will only be buying what i want and need. Instead of spending so much growing and havng to give most of it away. I like to support the farmes market. My brother and sister-in-law have just finished putting 900 tomatoe plants in the their greenhouse and are now getting the peppers and cucumbers going. They wil also have 200 plants of squash and 300 of okra. I go out once in a while and help when they need it and also will help at the farmers market. All of my canning tomatoes will come from there. Anybody want to work? heh heh

I've never heard of the seed package that you described.

We will go to the greenhouse and pick up several tomato plants to put in our raised bed garden......if the weather ever gets to normal.

That's a new one on me. I wish I could plant tomatoes or something but I would need to animal proof my yard.

I always try to plant tomato plants every year.  I have planted 6 this year.  They are growing and looking good so far.  My family loves fresh tomatos in the summer!

Growing tomatoes is easier than you think! And once you've tasted a homegrown tomato, you'll never want to go back to store-bought.
