I think it's important for a person to pursue the career of their dreams. People do their best work and make their greatest contributions when they really enjoy their work.

I would guess that there are more options in the nursing field, rather than dental assistant.

Before you make a decision between going back to school for nursing or dental assistant, think about which one you enjoy the most.  When you do a job that you really enjoy, it's not like work at all.

I would think that nursing would have a variety of ways you can help people, which would keep it from getting boring after a few years.   But you are also less likely to have to hold someone's hand while they die as a dental tech.  That's what it would boil down to for me.  No matter how good the Doctors and Nurses are, people die.  If that's what you choose.  Let me thank you in advance for all the people you will be able to help.   I couldn't do it.

Search your heart for what you love to do.  That is your passion.  If you should choose one, I would choose dental assistant.  Good luck.

A career in the medical industry is alway a good way to go.  Just research the correct major and how much they get paid.  I wish I went into the medical field.  Also I have a family member that makes a lot of money as a computer software Engineer.  Hope this helps.

Some things you can do to help decide.  First if you don't want to put off classes - find out how many classes both options have in common and start taking those to get them out of the way.  Then you might want to go to career fairs, or your doctor/dentist and ask the people currently working in those professions what they like/don't like about their job.  Maybe after talking with a variety of people in the field, you'll have a better sense of which one would suit you better.

Another option would be to see how many extra courses are required to obtain both certifications.  If there are only a few, then why not get certified as both - then you'll really have open options.  :)

Those two fields would appear similar enough to where you would be taking a lot of the same classes in your first couple of years. If that is the case, which I really don't know, just pick one and you can always switch.

Either way there is a good demand for both jobs. Just pick the one you think you would enjoy more.

Do you know someone who works in either field. If so talk to and talk to them what they like, and do not like about their fields. Have questions prepared. Hopefully you should have a direction as to which direction you wish to go.

Whatever you choose, good luck.

Try to gain some insight in both fields before you choose. Talk to people in both professions. Volunteer at a hospital and see if you can shadow a nurse to see if it's something you truly want to pursue.

Choose the career that makes you smile and feels good everyday.  Take it from one who knows that if you take a job just because the money is the main factor, you are going to be miserable.

I would say that nursing has more options! My sister-in-law was a nurse for 32 years and loved every minute of it. Nursing also seems to be more open as far as if you decided to move. There are always job openings in the field all over the country.
