I believe anyone who will try to get America out of this situation we are currently in deserves an applause.

they've sent money to many corporations to help the citizens but the money is not being used for it's original purpose and no one is holding these companies responsible.  I know several families facing foreclosure and they haven't received any help.  it was a terrible mistake that the president made, so now lets hope he comes through with the healthcare reform or I'm afraid he won't be around for a second term. :BangHead:

This is exactly my problem too. I understand and agree with the bailouts, but when we see they are being misused, why is no one holding the corporations feet to the fire?!

I have a real problem with bail out money that actually make their money off the backs of the American people. Take an insurance company who makes their money from the peoples premiums and then they have bail out money from taxpayers? Please tell me what I am missing here.

I am one of those people. I worked for the same company for three months short of 10 years and received a forced reduction (layoff). My husband and I worked in the same department so both of us lost our jobs. At the time we were making $22.63 an hour per person. My husband is still unemployed and I was finally able to attain a part-time job for $9.50 an hour but all the funds pay for medical insurance for my family (4 of us). Needless to say the funds are no longer available to make all the payments.

I have requested assistance and cannot receive any assistance for food and such as I owe a home and a car. Funny.....my tax dollars go to help others in need but I guess that does not matter! I have lost one vehicle and am now going into foreclosure on my home as I cannot receive any assistance.

I am still blessed as I have my family and wonderful parents that are willing to let us move in until we are on our feet again. I wish the best and pray for those that are not as blesed :angel11:

as i posted in this topic

I always give these simple facts that a great gauge of his performance.

1) He renewed the patriot act,
2) He doubled the troops in Afghanistan
3) He still hasnt closed Gitmo as he promised on 'day one' and even if he did, he doesnt tackle 'torture' as a topic, only the facility that is 'famous'.
4) He has given BILLIONS (trillions after interest etc) of taxpayers money (future generations) to rich bankers and companies who are now closing facilities in the US to open up shops in foreign lands stimulating THEIR economy not ours.
5) The military commissions act still is in effect
6) Telecom spying is still tolerable.

Basically he took an oath to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights and he is failing at that. He vetoed Bush's bill on stem cell research overnight. He could do the same with the Patriot Act and Military Commissions act. He supports the majority of everything that Bush did and it is very difficult to tell them apart if only going by actions. Most people who support Obama have nothing but "faith" and "hope" and nothing really to say about his actions. Obama has been there nearly a year and nothing but more war, more troops dying, more jobs lost, more corporate handouts, renewals of the laws that Bush implemented that are against the Constitution, torture, spying etc. Its all the same *bleep* different *bleep* :)

To my knowledge, the stem cell restriction was an executive order by Bush.  When a new president comes into office, the previous president's executive orders are re-signed, changed, or simply left to expire.  Obama's executive order to lift the restriction on stem cell research will be subject to just the same when he leaves office.

I could be wrong on this, but I don't recall the Patriot Act being an executive order.  I believe it was official legislation passed through and voted on by Congress.  It is not the same as doing away with an executive order.  To get rid of an executive order, as with the stem cell restriction, all a President has to say is "I will or will not continue upholding this executive order in my Presidency."  Getting rid of a bill passed by Congress is not the same; it requires an amendment to the bill or Supreme Court judiciaries voting that it's unconstitutional.

I should be clear that I absolutely, in no way, support the Patriot Act or anything of that nature and that it may very well have been an executive order.  I also think that if Obama wanted it gone, he could certainly sway enough legislators to vote for an amendment ending it (I'm disappointed he has not; but most people couldn't tell you what the Patriot Act even is, so the pressure to do so isn't really on Obama as it should be).  However, there is a clear distinction between an executive order and a legislative bill passed by Congress -- that's the point I wanted to make.
