Yes.  It should be legalized for many reasons:

1.)  The taxes would generate income for our country.  Some dispensaries have helped their communities because they are heavily taxed.

2.)  The medicinal uses are wide and plentiful.  Plus, it is easy to grow.  Chronically ill patients would derive a great deal of benefit and save money.

3.)  Marijuana is not a "gateway drug".  That is a myth.  Yes, many people sampled pot before they became addicted to other substances.  But those same people also sampled water, coffee, sugar.

4.)  It is less harmful than alcohol, and alcohol is legal.

5.)  There is not one single documented case of someone dying by marijuana poisoning.

6.)  The argument that people will abuse it is also not a valid argument.  Alcohol is abused.  Coffee is abused.  Sugar is abused.  Someone said it would be "used in a bad way".  Fast food is used in a bad way -- obesity rates, heart attack, stroke, etc.  But, fast food is still legal.

Research has shown that marijuana protects brain cells.  Other research has shown that marijuana is effective at killing cancerous cells.  It is great for nausea, pain, anxiety, headaches, and menstrual cramps.

The biggest reason why it is still illegal is because the Pharmaceutical companies would lose billions of dollars if it became legal across the nation.

Marijuana is not illegal in every state.  I live in a Marijuana legal state.

In the context of the argument, the point that more people will abuse it is valid. When people abuse it, it costs the government money. When people preach about the additional tax revenues that legalization would provide, they leave out those costs.

That is true, more people probably would abuse it.  However, it is not a reason to keep it illegal.  Otherwise we would be making nearly everything illegal.  That is my point.  People abuse fast food.  People abuse beer.  If abuse is a factor in whether something is legal or not, then those two items alone should be illegal as well.

The revenues that have been generated in some cities by dispensaries has earned the cities *profit*.  Profit is anything above overhead costs, including taxes taken for rehab programs.

That is a lot of information that I did not know before. Sounds interesting, and now it makes sense, why the pharma companies dont want to legalize marijuana.

Actually weed is more harmful than alcohol and tobacco combined.  It's been proven it makes certain people go psychotic and become extremely paranoid.

YES, marijuanna should be legal. Its a plant, a healing plant. Read about Rick Simpson oil. Educate yourselves. :)
I AGREE!!!!  If people would just educate themselves about this and forget about the crazy video we were all shown that was made in 1940 about people going crazy after using it once, maybe we could all learn that it is a naturally grown plant from the earth that has very good healing properties.  Has anyone used pot, gotten really stoned and jumped up and said ..."I need to get more NOW...if I don't I'm gonna go crazy."  NO...just the opposite.  If you do use and use responsibly then your only reaction is turn on a good movie and get me some munchies.  No one has ever gone out and robbed a bank to get more...they're too tired and stoned to move.LOL ;D :peace: :icon_rr:

Either way people are still going to sneak around to get it so why not make it legal for every one

The use of medical marjuana comes down to this point. Mariuana is a safe and sane way to take the pain and depression out of a serious medical illness and brings a degree of happiness to the paitent they would not otherwise have.

Since I actually HAVE EXPERIENCE I will post.

I take prescription pain killers (narcotics) for chronic pain everyday. After a couple of years I noticed I barely had any energy, felt too sick to do anything physical, and if my pain was too great, I couldn't take more medicine for fear of liver damage and tolerance buildup. I basically had to take pills to feel normal...bad place to be.

I decided to give medicinal marijuana a try. Honestly, it worked fantastically. I had energy in the day to do physical things and provided pain relief much more effectively. If I was hurting more than normal at night, I could smoke more and would feel better, so the overall pain management is far more efficient. No fear of overdose or tolerance.  Problem is it's very expensive to have a license and purchase from legal vendors, so I didn't stick with it.

I went back to pills again because no relief makes me basically bed ridden. However I hate dealing with tolerance buildup and the bad side effects.

Whomever feels it's dangerous is ill-informed and is judging based upon their moral views or whatever nonsense they hear elsewhere.

I have MS and Epilepsy.  After having medications cause my body significant damage, I will never go back to pills.  I control my symptoms with marijuana and other plants.    I also wrote a research paper on Astrocytoma, Glioma, and marijuana treatment when I was in college.  :D

Agree that people abusing it isn't a good reason to keep it illegal, but stating that other legal things are more harmful isn't a good reason to make it legal either.

Actually, profit for the city governments would be the tax revenue less any expenditures for the economic costs associated with the use of marijuana. Even if a local government is generating profit off of it, it really isn't much.

That simply isn't true.  Some cities in California have generated a great deal of revenue.

Not to mention that we would still spend far more annually on weight loss treatments, diabetes, alcoholism, and other diseases caused by substances that are legal.  Your argument is moot.
