Who's started their garden yet?
« on: April 20, 2013, 07:20:56 am »
I got a little bit of a start-preparing the ground.  I am not a traditional plow up a plot gardener.  I put spinach between plants in my flower bed.  I plant cucumbers along the fence to have an edible privacy fence.  I put chard along the patio edge to form a hedge.  I put an occasional tomato or pepper along side the house.  No rows for me.

We used to have a garden every year but couldn't use everything we grew and couldn't give it away so we use the farmers markets now instead.

I have some things planted from over winter (garlic, kale, onion). I just planted some peas, lettuce, potatoes a couple weeks ago.  I still have more items I want to plant.

I use large planters. Right now I have tomato and cucumber seedlings. I'm going to plant some scotch bonnet peppers soon.

:bunny:  We have started most of our about a month ago.  (We live in southern California)  the tomato and zucchini squash and peppers are both flowering all ready.  The green beans are starting to do their thing too!  I love gardens, we plant a lot of things in the flower beds.  We are trying to get to the point where if we water it is because we have food growing, not just beautiful flowers.

I have started cleaning but I had to put it off it is still too cold out here. March was so nice and warm up to the 70's and April is just so cold. I don't know what's up with mother nature but I can't quite get my garden plans in motion. My joints are bothered by the cold that I could hardly pull any weeds, nor work the soil with the shovel. The soil is so hard from the weather. But I know for sure I will start eventually when this weather is subsided. I can't wait.  :dontknow: when I will start. I need that hot sun now!!!
