Try using the MagicJack phone system
« on: May 22, 2009, 05:45:45 pm »
Many of you may or may not have heard of this newest craze in online phone systems since Vonage. It's called MagicJack and works about the same, but, after setup, only costs less than $1.70 per month ($19.95 per year). After reading all their online Q&As and debating the pros and cons for a couple months, I finally signed on in Dec., 08 for $46.90 (includes the plug-in unit, S&H, and 1st year's service). Only costs $19.95 per year after that, but with more substantial savings if you renew for multiple years on your anniversary. I've been super satisfied ever since. I recommend everyone at least thoroughly check it out at www.magicjack.com. We can all save a few bucks these days.
It's also a small expense for gaining peace of mind when giving out your home phone number to so many online sites, eh?
Enjoy!

...I hate to say this, but you can also use a FREE online phone number, k7.net. Been using it for the past few months, and it's absolutely free and works like a charm.

Seeing as the first two posters broke FC's TOU... I'll throw in my two cents as well.

Here is what I use... and the link will take you to a nice review of it... as well as a link to the service if you want to use it.. It's a FREE Voicemail service

Yeah, I have a magic jack.  I immediatly cancelled my cable phone.  I told my brother about it and he cancelled his cell phone bill and bought a cheap pay as you phone.  (He don't use his phone much)  But his way, he is definately paying cheaper on phone usage. No monthly fees.

I haven't tried MagicJack, but since I don't have a home phone and I rely on my cell phone for pretty much all my contact with my family, it works out for us.  On the other hand, I do hate to give out my cell phone #.  I'll have to take a look at K7, but I did try a couple of times to sign up for Brrring.com...but for some reason, I could never get the confirmation to go through.  I know several others that use it quite nicely though.

I use magic jack...I live in Korea. I kept a local number and call home no problems. I can get calls from home without my fam being charged a lot of cash. It's so nice. Only downside is having to leave the computer on hibernate or whatever..
