Kids and there games are insane as far as cost.  My 13 year old was telling me yesterday as we were walking through wal-mart that he needs money...for games.  Maybe giving me a gift card for game rentals at a redbox would be exciting for him.  I think many kids enjoy the bonding they can achieve with there friends by interacting.."did you see...?  On such and such level?  Or I just achieved the _______ in blah blah blah.  I don't get it myself but if it keeps them busy and out of trouble I suppose gaming in moderation isn't such a bad thing...just expensive.

Been there, done that.  I have a 5 year-old grandson and they can come up with the most costly gifts.  I would give him a card with 10 bucks in it.  He can always save his money for the game, since you already stated you cannot afford a computer or the cost of a game unless you look for the game on sale.  They are fortunate.  I would have been in heaven to be able to get a gift at all when I was his age. :o :angel11:

Any Lego toys...even the small ones.  Try getting something on ebay....games are inexpensive there.  Go to goodwill and find something there, maybe.  My son is so excited everytime I go to goodwill and bring him a Packers sweatshirt!  Happy birthday to him!!

I just thought of something for your grandson.  If you're up to it why not give him a video game themed party?  Make him a part of it.  I saw a video of a kid that designed arcade games out of cardboard in his Dad's mechanic shop.  It became an internet explosion where kids all over are coming up with there own games.  This kid even had a prize area....he was so cute he'd crawl under the cardboard and feed tickets through the machine...very clever.  I think I may even offer this idea to my son this year.  And he's a teen.  Some things the boys could do aside from the obvious cake and ice-cream would be...design a game...Provide them with cardboard boxes, knobs, tape, .. you name it.  Pending on the weather...move tv and game counsel outside so the boys can play out there...than have breaks with hide and seek, scavenger hunts...heck even sparklers at night are cool.  Have flashlight tag when it get's dark...or instead of tv tag...video game tag.... You could go down as the coolest grandma in history.

Get him a gift card. He will probably get cash and he can use your card along with any other funds.

Oh yes!!!  Great suggestion!  When my son was 12, my dad got him a snap circuit set and he spent forever with it.  Now my 10 y.o. son wants one.

What about a gift card to Club Penguin online?  I think I've seen them at Target and also at the grocery store where they have the gift cards all displayed.  Club Penguin has age-appropriate games.

I have a 10 y.o. boy and he loves video games.  He also loves Legos, Knex (similar to Lego), Beyblades, Bakugon, Pokemon, (these last three things can be toys and/or playing cards). He also loves to read and play outside and just be a kid.  He likes to play 'tennis' by just hitting a tennis ball with his racket against the garage door.

Does your grandson collect anything?  Perhaps you can find something inexpensive in that area.

If you know what sort of games he has, perhaps you can give him one that's on sale at a discount or a used game. Games get a lot cheaper after they're out for few months.
