I used to live in Texas, moved to California. Love it here. Yes we have earthquakes and fires, but what state is really safe from the elements?
Vacation time? We have the big trees, up North pass San Francisco, down SouthEast we have the
giants Sequoias trees, we have Yosemite, Volcanic parks, skiing, down and cross-country.
Try the John Muir trails in Kings Canyon National Park or in Sequoia National park. Beautiful,
tree-filled and barren, and lake view trails that will take you all the way to Yosemite, if you have the time, 2-3 weeks.
Of course we also have the fun parks, lots of them, and then we have the "City", San Francisco, my
favorite city. If you ever go there, try the Buena Vista for an Irish Coffee. Best in the State. Near where the trolly cars turn around. If you enjoy a drink now and then, bet you can't have just one!
I am an out door guy, the forest calls me now and then, so I have hiked all over the state, and I
have not seen or hiked any other state trails that I enjoyed as much. Well--maybe Utah. Utah
does have some neat trails. Any one ever hiked Angel's landing, in Zion? Or the hole in the rock
hike in Escalante Park? Or the hollows? Or the Natural Bridges. Ha, I could go on.
But if ever in California, you need to go to the Sequoias and just look at them. Take small hikes,
go up the stairs at look-out peak--moderate--hike to a lake, fish in the lakes. Mammoth is the fishing mecca of the region, and some good sized fish have been caught there.
Stay away from the big cities, unless you are into fun parks. -- San Francisco is an exception--
Enough said, I think I am very happy to be in
Calif.
