Why I don't watch the news?

  I don't watch the news because all you hear is bad and sad news around the world. By not watching T.V. I feel happier. However, I get my news on the internet and stay in tune with the world as far as what is going on.  My thoughts and prayers are with those people from Boston. So sad to know we live in a world of chaos and no one knows what to do about it. How can anyone feel safe anymore? Enjoy every minute of your life, the minute you wake up. Pray everyday and think positive as often as you can. I wish I had the power to change the world for the better and not for the worst. I hope things will get better. I hope God will punish those people responsible for the Boston bombings.

I sometimes go weeks without watching the news, your right it seems to be always Bad news! Either that or Politics 24/7. There also was a letter sent to a sitting US Senator today that came up positive for Ricin. This world is really going crazy!!

I quit watching the news years ago. And I quit watching television too. There was just so much my mind could take without getting all depressed!

I figure if there's anything really important going on that I need to know, one of my friends will tell me about it.

Lifes' too short to worry about everything going on in the world. I just do the best I can to make my little corner better.

I agree.  I understand that 90% of the things that happen are generally bad but it's really frustrating how with all the horrible things they report, they can't sprinkle a good story in there every once in a while.  They might end with something good, but that doesn't negate all the horrible things they told us before.  Or, like with the bombing, they replay the same thing over and over again without really adding to the story.  Obviously it's the big story at the moment, but talking about the bombing, they telling me about a shooting, then going back to the bombing, then reporting a robbery, then going back to the bombing isn't a good use of my time since it took them an hour to tell me about 3 things.

My favorite is how they say something like "shopping bags could be killing your family" and then they take the next 45 minutes to talk about other things before telling you that the reason shopping bags could be killing you is because the raw chicken you bought might leak onto the bag and then get transfers to other things you put in the bag.  It's like, "really, I watched all the stories that reported on murders and theft in the area only to learn something I already knew."

I hardly ever watch the news, it is just so difficult to watch it. Hardly ever is their anything good on it.

Watching the news is sad, it  shows a society of violent and sadness.

I agree with you....I don't do the news, I stopped years ago, it's a real mood killer.....all they report are things that make me depressed and scared so I stopped watching and like you I tune into the nest to read of to view what I choose to view....I know there are a lot of good people out there.....

I was raised up watching the news.  While there is bad news, there is also good news.  What gets me is they repeat the same thing over and over.

Well spoken. I agree, I don't often watch the news and use the internet to catch up on current events. I so often am in horror over what people are willing to do to other people like at the bombing at the Boston Marathon. It is just so sad and disturbing it is hard to keep watching the news about incidents like this. I hope they are able to quickly find whoever did this terrible act.

I get what I want off the internet-I can read as much or as little as I want.  I hate the news because it seems to get in a loop-the same thing over and over, sometimes for days.  After 9/11 I went to see my folks.  Mom was standing in front of the TV.  She didn't respond when I talked to her.  Dad said she had been standing there for about 5 hours watching the towers come down over and over again.  Thats when I decided that enough is enough.  Turned it off, took her and Dad to Dairy Queen, took our ice cream to a park, fed the geese and forbid her to turn on the TV.  Only Dad could turn it on.  I gave up watching it on a regular basis after that.

The Boston Marathon is a true tragedy.  My heart and prayers go out to the families of those who died and the gravely wounded.  But I truly want to know what the 8 year-old did to anyone to deserve that kind of pain.  Tears are welling up in my eyes because he was a baby who was just beginning to live his life.  I hope that the culprit gets caught and soon.  The act he or she just committed was mean, premeditated and senseless.  The culprit deserves to die for it.

My mom read an article awhile back that said people who watch news every day and read a newspaper every day don't live as long as people who don't do those activities every day.  Now I don't know but I know that watching news and reading the newspaper is stressful because you are right its all sad or scary.
