Definitely a big city. In most big cities if you go to the right area it will feel like a small town. The same cannot be said for small towns, they opnly feel like small towns. So basically with the big city you get the best of both worlds.

I love living in a big city. I lived in San Francisco for most of my childhood. I love that there's always something to do. I really miss living there. I think small towns are a bit boring. I used to live in one too, so I know what it's like to live in both environments. I definitely prefer the big city life.

Is it better to be a big fish in a little pond or a little fish in a big pond.  I prefer to be a big fish in a little pond.

I live near Seattle, WA. I'm right in the middle between big city and boonies here and I like it. I've lived here all my life and I've found that I don't particularly care for big city or small town. When I visit Seattle I am overwhelmed with all of the noise and the massive amount of cars and people. When I visit the small towns about an hour away I feel trapped by all of the trees and worry about what I'd do in an emergency because of how distant the nearest hospital is. If I had to choose one or the other though I think I'd do small town, but I'd be as close to the local firestation or clinic as possible.

depends on what's called a big city and what's called a small town...

I grew up in the largest city it the state... (population 35k) in the most populated county in the state (110k)...
we spend our summers on the beach, either at the boat club, friends houses on lake champlain, relatives houses on different parts of the lank etc..

but the whole population of Vermont is only 750k +/- so our whole state don't count as a big city in some books...

as for small towns.... I spent my time in them too.... some of my fiends I could sent a letter to by addressing it to their first name and a zip code...   post office would need to zip to get it to the right post office.... and from there...  everyone knew who Robert or Tom were...

I don't mind big cities... (I hang out in Montreal often) but I much prefer smaller towns where things are more relaxed... no real crime cause everyone knows everyone anyway...
