Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.
« on: April 11, 2013, 05:34:05 am »

 Age-Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

 This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
And notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first...

 But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
So I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Pepsi aside
So that I don't accidentally knock it over.

 The Pepsi is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
A vase of flowers on the counter
 Catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
 Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
But first I 'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I 'll be looking for the remote,
But I won 't remember that it 's on the kitchen table,
So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
But first I 'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
Get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
 The car isn't washed,
 The bills aren't paid,
There is a warm can of
 Pepsi sitting on the counter,
The flowers don 't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can 't find the remote,
I can 't find my glasses,
And I don 't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I 'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
 And I 'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
And I 'll try to get some help for it, but first I 'll check my e-mail....

 Do me a favor.
Forward this message to everyone you know,
Because I don 't remember who I've sent it to.

Don 't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!

Have a good day everyone!!

I also have the disorder you spoke of, but this one is really getting me upset. See if this rings any bells for you. I walk into a room and for the life of me I can't remember why I went in there. I believe the name for that is DESTINESIA  or in layman terms destination amnesia. I have to turn around and trace my tracks back to remember what I was doing and looking for. It can be very frustrating.  :BangHead:  Does this sound familiar to anyone?  :dontknow:

It sure does sound familiar.  And if I'm going to the store and need more than 2 items, they'd better get written down or forget about it !   :BangHead:

Now I know what my problem is called.  That is so me every day.  I constantly start something only to see something else that needs doing and on and on it goes.  Thank you for a great laugh.

I have done this many times where I intended to do something and I thought about it for several minutes and I could not remember.  I decided to do something else and then I finally remembered what I wanted to do in the first place.  But I also have sensory issues where loud noises really agitate me to the point that I cannot function at all.  If it keeps up I will go into meltdown where I either leave the area where the noise is, fall asleep or zone out completely or totally freak out and say or do things in an effort to stop the noise.  I have found that prozac helps cut the anxiety so that I can at least tolerate the noise but still not function very well.

Also, I can only communicate with someone verbally and not through body language very well.  I have been told this by my friends.  And if two or more people are talking with not much of break between each others words, the word all blend together and I cannot understand any of them.  Even if I try and focus on one person talking.  I may hear some words, but not all the words.  Also, this only allows me to hear one side of the conversation at a time.  So, either each person has to talk one at a time and slowly or there is no point in me participating in the conversation.  Even if I could lip read, I could only lip read one person at a time.  My hearing has been checked out to be absolutely normal and actually excellent.   So, this is definitely not a hearing issue.  Based upon my research, it is a sensory processing disorder.  I also have this with taste and body position (called vestibular, I think is correct).

First of all welcome to FC  And yes that sounds soooooo familiar to me. In fact while in the bathroom the other day I was thinking of something I needed to do, and when I left I totally forgot what it was. So back into the bathroom I go and BINGO I remembered lol, how weird is that  :dontknow:
