SSI Beef survey
« on: April 05, 2013, 12:01:56 pm »
I have found it quite interesting to fill out these surveys about the beef we eat and how it is raised. I lived in a farming area of Iowa while I was growing up and my folks always bought locally from our neighbors. These animals were not maimed by being caged or unhealthy, requiring an overabundance of antiboitics from cramped overcrowed conditions. They basically seemed happy. If our nation would go back to these type of farming practices instead of making it so hard for the indivdual family-owned farm to make a profit, our animal products would be healthier for us to eat. Corporate farming is the not only putting the little guy out of business, but the products will end up killing us and future generations. Willie Nelson has the right idea by supporting the family farm. It is too bad more can't be done to stop the take-over of corporate farming! Just my opinion.

I also love surveys about this topic. I enjoy giving my opinion on treatment of animals in the farming industry. I've been a vegetarian for 5 years next month. I hate how the industry is now. And I hate how cruelly many of the animals are treated. It just isn't fair. I have seen many videos of how workers treat the animals and if one animal is treated like that, it is enough to make me want to avoid meat consumption all together. In my mind I'm making a small difference. I used to eat chicken everyday! I have seen a video of a cow that was skinned alive. Just awful! I wish the treatment of animals could be better. That may encourage me to consume meat again. But one thing I always understand is everyone has their own opinions about things. And I never push mine on other people nor do I put anyone down about them eating meat because that is your own choice. I do like listening to others opinions because you may learn something you didn't know though.
