TRADITION
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:17:31 am »
When our young are having babies younger and younger and getting married earlier and earlier, it is important that the basics are instilled in our children at an early age.  I never had any daughters of my own, but my two sons at the ages of 8yrs and 11yrs could clean (and I mean clean) a house, cook a dinner (it may have only been spaghetti and meatballs but it was good) and do laundry (colors only-never trusted them with the bleach lol).  Now as adults, I don't worry about them not being independent and not being able to take care of themselves.  I taught them.  They've taken home economics out of the schools (something I looked forward to when I was in school), they've taken out the Title I Project (one of the best educational program in the US), phonics was eradicated in back in the 70's  :icon_rr: and now they want to take music! As parents and grandparents, looks like we're gonna have to take up the slack!  BACK TO BASICS PEOPLE!  ??? Let's raise our children responsibly. By that I'm talking about the simple stuff..how to cook, clean, be respectful of your elders, be responsible, respect others, take critism and profit by it....I could go on and on (lol)...but tell me what you think? :dontknow:

handing down family recipes has always been a big thing in my family :) although, sadly, i've never been any good at fixing any of the recipes i've been given thus far, haha..

The only "tradition" my family had was that mom stayed home, and dad supported the family.  My sister and I have both done the same.
