TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED ......
« on: April 01, 2013, 11:20:50 am »
The things we take for granted .....It seems that the things we take for granted, we constantly are always praying for. I never underestimate the [power of prayer, prayer without works is dead anyway. Not gaining much progress.....never.
I pray for health, finances, and my family. I've taking things for granted by not working at or on all the things I ask for in prayer.I don't think I'm the only one who does this,so inquiring minds want to know how and what you have taken for granted .....

I am with you.  People take things for granted.  It is sad really.  I recall living in Chicago in a housing project and there were people with more than 4 children.
Even when welfare reform was coming out and these mothers were told they were getting no more extra money for children they give birth to, they considered that to be a joke.  I know of parents who had 8 and 9 children.  Prayer works, but it does not work when you are asking God for something utterly ridiculous. :angel11: :angel12: :angel11:

Many young people take their good health for granted, but I have known or known of several children in the past few years who have died of accidental injuries or childhood illnesses.  As for me, I took good health for granted until I got older.  Now the new health issues are coming almost with regularity.  Getting old is no fun.

I don't take anything for granted,  I am thankful and mindful of every good thing I have.  The older I get, the more I feel this way. For many years the words that have gotten me through all the tough times have been, " I wept because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet".  That thought has always put everything that happens into the proper perspective for me.

loved your post, I always am thankful too even during the "rough patches" that seem to never end...  I've seen how being unappreciative and ungrateful has its effects on people especially as they get older and that negativity isn't what I want in my life.

My worst is just not appreciating how good I have have it and how lucky I was to have had really good people around me all my life.  Working on this one.  It helps to remember that to appreciate is to raise the value, so I raise the value of these things in my life by appreciating the people and circumstances that surround me.

The other really big thing is that we as a country take for granted our freedoms.  We have let slide our responsibility to take action to prevent the losses of these freedoms and have given the management of our lives to others who don't have our best interests at heart.  Makes for a scary future.

I will stop now before I start to rant and will go appreciate the rich dark dirt in my yard that is producing an amazing abundance of weeds.

I guess I take the time I spend with my parents for granted. My mom is going through Chemo right now in another state, and I wish I could just pick up and go there to be by her side, but I don't have a job, and I have her grandchild to tend to everyday.

I am with you on this statement. I believe that everyone takes things for granted. Maybe not always intentionally but we do fro time to time because we are human. On the other hand we take things for granted because we don't have the faith to believe that it will be carried out. I really need to work on this area because it is an easy one to fall into when we have run in to a patch of bad things, but we should never let go of our Faith, because that is what will get us through the hard times. Thanks for sharing.

In relationships, men and women take things for granted.  I had an ex whose idea was to take me for granted but when he recognized it, he saw I was not upset about it; I was pissed.  There are things said that can take away the momentum, and there are things said you must dissect for the meaning.  I learned to take everything my ex-said with a grain of salt; he would lie, according to his own mother, quicker than a cat could lick his (where the sun don't shine). :icon_rr: :female: :male:

I think everyone takes things for granted sometimes. It often takes something outside yourself to realize how lucky you really are. I find that when I do caregiving work I am more grateful for what I am able to physically do and my overall health. When I work with people with developmental disorders I am glad to be able to convey my thoughts to other, take care of all my needs on my own and have the mental capacity to think about complex topics.

I still find that I take for granted certain things in my life like having a good home, decent finances and plenty of food. I do get down about wanting to be able to do more things or make more money. I would love to be able to travel, get a newer car or other luxuries but overall I have to remember that my life is pretty good and most things I wouldn't change.

I take far too many things in this life for granted.  In 1991 Toad the Wet Sprocket released an album called "Fear" and one of the songs on it was called "I Will Not Take These Things For Granted."  That's probably a good lesson for most of us.

I disagree with the prayer stuff, but it's good advice in general to not take people/things for granted. Easier said than done.
