Definitely a house. Apartment is ok, Duplex/Patio Home better, House best.

Apartments are cheaper generally but i love my house and the privacy it gives --i love being able to set in the yard and plant my flowers and my son makes us a garden every year

I Would Own An Apartment For The Investment But I Would Not Live There. I Lived In An Apartment Years Ago And I Was Lucky It Was Mostly Senior Citizens Living There. My Wife And I Always Kept It Quiet As Well :)

I worked in the apartment industry for about 12 years and I have seen, experienced and lived so much in apartments; that when I was able to get a house there was more freedom.  True enough the maintenance can add up compared to living in an apartment complex.  But estimate the rent paid in a year and times it by 10-30 years, to owning your own home in 10-30 years.  But to each is own, if I had to move into an apartment again, I think I would go for a townhouse or loft, I just love space and having family and friends gatherings. ;D

Apartment because its what I can afford and I don't need a lot of space.

Apartement is good for doing noting in term of fixing this or that and also no need to clean up and take care out side area.

But yard is very nice for a home, specially for kids...

House is good. You can have a garden at the back and your neighbor is far.

I think so long as you live in the right area, owning your own house is always more advantageous than renting an apartment. Mainly because of the freedom it provides.

When i was single i lived in apartments, with all utilites paid. If anything went wrong they fixed it. But had always wanted a house agin. Now i am back in my own home and there is always something that has to be done, but it gets there when i am good and ready. Pluse my yard to putter in and a garden also my little shop to work in. Hubby has is barn and all are happy.

I like both actually. For short term i'd go with the apartment (loft or something though lol); long term = house.  :bunny:

A house.   You have your own place, you can do what you want and no one can tell you no.  If you want to paint your living room black with green and red strips you can ( no I didn't and would not!), you can't do that when you rent.  Renting an apartment is good for short term, I did after I left my parent's home and for a year after we were married, but we then bought our first home.  Long term, I feel it's just like opening a window and throwing money out.  You pay rent, but have nothing to show for it.
