I so hate those kind of nights--Sunday night I was soooo tired, but could not sleep for anything.  I went through a streak where I knew the schedule of all the TV shows on in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep.  Things have been better lately--but every once in awhile, I still have one of those nights.  I feel for you!

I never had a problem with it until about a month ago.  I had a bought of insomnia for about a week.  All I can figure is it was stress related.   :dontknow: Hope it never happens again.  It had a negative effect on my health.

I know.  I so agree with you, but with me, I believe it is because I worked third shift all my life and now my body is just messed up.  I hate that!  I get tired somewhere between 4 and 6 in the morning, when the rest of the world is looking at a new day.

Well, part of it may be the third shift thing.  I don't know if it is selfish or not, but actually I kind of enjoy the quiet house to myself at night where I can do my paid clicks, have the cable to myself with a fresh pot of coffee (oh, that too!!!!), or whatever all night long.

I used to fall asleep the minute my head hit the pillow; but now I have trouble falling asleep. Once I finally do fall asleep I usually sleep a couple of hours and then wake up. At that point I can't get back to sleep. I've tried a lot of things but nothing works!!

I have been so tired for the past two weeks since my mother has been in ICU.  I think I'm so tired that I can't sleep.  I normally have no trouble falling asleep and sleeping sound for 7-8 hours.
Have a wonderful day!

I agree, there have been nights when I'm exhausted but for some reason I can't sleep.  I lay in bed, tossing and turning.  Usually then I just turn on the tv and give up trying to sleep for awhile.

I'm sorry to hear that. Some nights I can't sleep but other nights I fall asleep very easily.

Well, I have been told many things can contribute to that...1st..Don't eat anything several hours before going to bed, (although chocolate actually makes me sleepy).  2nd..Depending on your age, pre menopausal, menopausal that would not be uncommon.  3rd..Try Earth Theraputics Stress Relaxation bath salts, they are very relaxing and calming, I know they have a website.  Good Luck!!

I've been there as well, more often than not too. For me, sometimes a beer helps more than PM tables; in fact, PM tablets do not really work on me that good, but what really knocks me down cold is NyQuil or equivalents. I don't know what's in it, but it works every time. Exhaustion or stress can get you to a point where no matter how tired you are you can't fall asleep, and the more it goes on, the more frustrated you get, which in turn, gets you more stressed out and keeps you awake. Read a book while having a glass of wine, or watch TV after drinking some NyQuil would be best way to take care of that sporadic night. If you get those nights pretty often, then you need a change in lifestyle, maybe get yourself tired during the day by doing activities or sports, and other activities or habits already suggested.

Well child, I think you need to do a workout at the Jim, then have a long warm bath, sip a nice bottle of wine, listen to some soothing music.... and hopefully sleep will come.

I've also found that some relaxation techniques work for me when I've had trouble falling asleep. Just lay on your bed and try to feel your toes -- I mean really feel every single toe and every part of each toe. Relax all of the muscles in your toes so that none are curled up nor are they pushed down. Once you've finished relaxing your toes, move up to your feet up to the ankle. Again, just try to feel every nerve in your feet and relax all muscle in your feet. Also going back and feel the relaxation in your toes. Continue moving up your body in this manner, moving up small increments like from one joint to the next. Each time try to feel  not only that section but also the rest of your body that you have already focused on. By using this methodical relaxation method, not only are you relaxing your muscles, but you are also focusing your mind on something fairly trivial, so if you have had stress from the day, you can get you mind focused elsewhere than dwelling on your problems.

Some other things I do not mentioned that help me:
1.  I'm very light sensitive - I found if there's any kind of light shining in my room, I have a hard time sleeping, so I cover up electronic lights and make sure the window is covered so it's a dark in the room as possible.
2.  Sometimes I'm temperature sensitive - I find if I'm too hot or too cold, I cannot fall asleep.  In general you want it to be a little cooler to fall asleep.  If it's warm in your room, maybe take off a layer or two of covers to try cooling down to see if that helps, or run a fan on low to get the air circulating.  If you feel too cold, try putting an extra blanket on or socks on your feet - trying to warm up a little.
3.  If you have a tennis ball or better, racket ball - put it on the floor and place your foot on top.  Roll around massaging your foot.  If you have any tight spots, spend a little time rolling out those areas.  Work both feet.  If you feel the bottoms of your calves are tight - take the ball and roll it around on them to massage them a bit.  I find if my feet and/or calves are too tight - I have problems relaxing my whole body.

Hope some of these help.

Know what you mean about stress. Dad is not in the hospital, but 5 round trips in a week and 2 days to see different doctors, and making sure he stays on his strict diet. I cook all of it, Do not use any store bought food, All is homemade and measured. But Thank the Lord he is now improving. Hopefully within the next month all will be well.
