Lost hotmail account
« on: March 27, 2013, 07:31:24 am »
My sister recently tried to access her hotmail email account, and she gets a message saying something like "it looks like someone else has been trying to use your account." I tried as well, (she gave me her password,) and I get the same message. We tried to do the recovery process, but the backup email showing for password reset starts with "re..." (they won't show the rest of it), which is not one she used for a recovery email. We tried answering security questions as well, and that didn't work. I think maybe someone hacked into her account and changed all the info. Is there any way we can get it back? Hotmail doesn't have any real support.

None of the free email accounts have much of a support. I had recently had a similiar problem with (AIM Mail) which is owned by AOL. I got into my account after about 2-3 days not checking it and I had to change my password, once I regained access I noticed that someone had Hijacked my address book and sent a Link to all my contacts. I sent an email out once I found out but, it had been 2 days since the event happened. I checked the community forum on aol and noticed that I was not the only one that it happened to. I have also heard other channels (Hotmail, Gmail) having similiar problems. The only advise I have is to try to send an email to Customer Support if you can get that email from someone and see if you need to change your email account and close out your original or if they can resolve the problem on your original account. Don't you love those Hackers!!

Gee, don't know what to tell you there, but I can say that I got so frustrated with Hotmail (MSN) that I switched to Gmail. I like it SO much better!!

Use Gmail and try to retrieve your MSN hot mail account by including it as a secondary email. Gmail will try to import all your hot mail emails to your Gmail. If you do not have a Gmail account, open one.

They should have a phone number for you to call, look around. Isn't hotmail actually part of Microsoft? To sign into my Bing I have to use my hotmail account. If I find out anything I'll post it for you.

Been there and done that, got so pissed off I said to hell with Hotmail. Lost a lot of my email contact as well. I don't know why but then later, and I am talking about almost a year, just for the heck of it I tried to sign back in. Well after a few attempts regarding my sign in stuff, I got back in. Well my contacts were not there, so what was the reason I lost everything to begin with? Well I have it back and running again, but I almost do not want to use it, just cautious I guess.

Hotmail is frustrating at times, and I have also received those messages, that someone is trying to sign in to my account. I also received a spam email mentioning it was from Microsoft Account team, asking me to login through that email, or else my account would be closed or something like that. I was almost going to sign in through that link, when I stopped, and looked at the email. It was from some har_kee@hotmail.com, and I immediately put it in junk. The things that people do to hack into your email :o

You know, they really got to have better support for these email services....But I guess the reason for the poor service is because it is free?

I agree with you, however I don't think that being free necessarily equates to bad service. I'm sure that they (or some of them anyway) do the best they can to keep up with the spammers and hackers out there. I just think that there are some, like Gmail, that keep up better.

I had the same thing happen with Hotmail but I was able to recover it so I am still able to use it.  There are always problems with Hotmail so I have created a gmail account for my more important emails.

I don't have a resolution, but these free based e-mail accounts do have generally poor support and little contingencies if you didn't take the precautions beforehand, such as secondary e-mail or mobile number verification.

Idk...  :/
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)
