You need to know what taxes they are taking out of your paycheck.  There are several taxes that you pay into.

Look at your pay stub that comes with your paycheck.  It should list all the taxes that you pay.

Contact the payroll department and make sure there wasnt a typo. Errors happen.

A W-2 should have boxes which shows which taxes were taken out.  There are boxes for federal, state, local, medicare, SSI, and others.

Your paycheck should have this information listed on the paystub.  The paystub of any check should show your total earnings, the taxes which were taken out by the type of tax, and the net amount (the net amount is your take home pay).

Also, if you have a 401(k), insurance, or anything else, it may be deducted from your paycheck but not necessarily included in your W-2.

Ah, this thread reminds me I need to do my taxes! I always wait until early April because of all the last minute changes they usually make to tax laws and forms, plus procrastination.

Take a look at the check stubs.  That should give you the whole amount for the year.  Simply add the totals and if there is a mistake, get in touch with HR.
