Dogs & Daycare
« on: March 22, 2013, 06:40:22 am »
Does anyone take their dogs to doggie daycare?  I have two labs that I take once a week.  For 8 hours a week the get to run and play with lots of other big dogs.  There is also a small dog part.  This is different than dog parks, these are fully licensed and staffed.  Of course there is a charge, but my "boys" come home happy, tired, and loving their fun time.

Do you live in a city? Just curious.

Yes, I live in a city.  The main reason they go is I have a little more than an acre of property which is not fenced in.  One of my dogs is a "runner" and would not return even if we called him.  This way they get socialization and the ability to run free in the daycare.  It is a very large indoor area with a 8 foot high fenced in large area outside to run also.

Well I don't bring my dog to a daycare place mainly because I have a yard and my dog is an australian shepherd (super-obedient) so she stays close by. I understand why you would though- owning dogs in cities is a lot of work. I think it's a good idea especially because if they don't get exercise, they BARK. A LOT.

Thanks Falconer02, I don't try to "baby" the two big boys, but they need to run and I know the younger one (about 1 year, not sure we rescued him so the vet is just guessing), is super high energy.  He needs to run, walks aren't enough.  I would love to fence in my yard, but the cost is over $20,000.00 -almost 2 acres.  I can guarantee if he had the chance to run free in my yard he would not return, he's just so hyper I don't think he would even hear me calling him.  Hopefully as he ages he will calm down.
