I always recycle but sometimes ill collect the bottles to go cash them in. But it seriously takes dozens of bottles to really make it worth it. The last time I went I brought 2 garbage bags full of mostly water bottles plus some. I got about $20. I felt that id get more because I had a couple hundred but I knw California doesnt give much for water bottles. Its really just spare cash usually. We dont buy plastic water bottles anymore mostly just reusable ones but im wondering if the large gallon ones would give more.. hmm.

I live in California and recycling plastics is a pain.  We usually only recycle cans.  But, we do save our bottles and take them when we recycle our cans.  We don't have much because we have re-using our bottles, too.

So this is definitely easier in some states than others (I know Hawaii, Maine, and Oregon) offer some of the best deposit refunds for cans and bottles.

Any of you ever done this before? I'm considering taking this on as yet another side-money-making endeavor. (Just bummed I don't really have a good space to store a bunch of cans in my tiny apartment...maybe I'll just throw em in the laundry room :p)

I was seriously considering going and stealing all the cans from my campus's recycling bins (even though this screams ILLEGAL at me). I recently saw some cleaning staff COMBINING THE TRASH AND RECYCLABLES IN THE SAME BIN, which left me very weary about recycling in those bins. Figure everyone would be better off if I went and got them recycled myself :cat:
I would like to sign up for that recycling cash. I think it good for my little 4 elementary students to start earning some cash because their school ask a lot of thing that require money..

We do recycle some of the bottles but i would like to learn how to do more.  I will use the bottles return that I can but would like to try to do something with all the other things that we have to recycle because like stated above the company that we use puts everything into one container.

I recycle my cans and metals. I make a good amount when I go because so my people collect cans,tv's, and cords for me, it really helps.

I saved up aluminum cans and would take them to the local recycling place for a few extra bucks.  The way to do it, though, if you have a lot of cans and not much space is to get a can crusher.  Some friends of mine had one of those in their garage and every time they had people over, they would have people crush their cans and throw them in a bag==so they had a lot of cans and it didn't take up much space.

When I lived in the dorms many of the students would just throw away bottles and cans so I would take them to the store to recycle them. It wasn't much money but I thought it was very wasteful that they wouldn't even recycle the cans when recycling was provided by the college. I do recycle now but I don't have much pop so I don't go very often.

You can recycle a television?  Really?  How much do you get for a TV?

I live in a province in Canada which gives 0.05 cents back for each can of pop and 0.10 cents for every beer bottle and 2l bottle of pop. We are taxed for every purchase though so if we chose not to return our bottles or cans then we lose that money which we paid for. Some people don't care and they just recycle their cans and bottles in the bins on the street. I prefer to buy my cans/bottles of pop and beer bottles and cans out of province where they don't charge the refund when you make your purchase. Then once they are consumed I return them for the refund in my province and cash in. In reality I almost get my bottles and cans for free they way I do it, so I am quite pleased!

My state doesn't pay for the recycling of cans and bottles but I live right over the line of a state that does and we recycle a lot of cans and bottles. It adds up. We use the money for recreation since we don't always have the extra for that kind of expense.

I used to get money for recycling cans, but they pay so little now that it's really not worth it.

It's an idea. But you won't make that much money. After all, 5 cents is not a lot if you don't have tons of cans. But if you're looking for a few sites to earn from, just let me know. Send me a private message here on FusionCash and I will share them with you.

That is not allowed here!

I like going along the sides of the roads, picking up bottles and cans to turn in for the 5 cent deposit. I also collect them from my coworkers, although since I moved to a different department with a lot less people, I don't get as many that way. I can usually make about 50 bucks a year from that, plus probably another 50 from our own bottles (although that's not really profit, since we had to pay the deposit when we bought them.) Of course it's been winter here for the last several months, so I haven't gone out yet. Plus my foot has been bothering me, so I can't do a lot of walking.
