Worried About Tracking?

Is anyone here worried about tracking/security with offers that require you to download applications to your computer? I am, because I recently created a Twitter account and got spam followers immediately. I mean, how could anyone find me when I didn't make myself searchable and had literally just registered 5 minutes earlier? I'm thinking of uninstalling the apps, even if it means getting my offer revoked.  :-

You are not required to download anything when you start a Twitter account. I have been on Twitter for a long time and I have never had spam followers. As for other downloads, I have an old laptop I use for anything that requires downloads. I just use that, so that my good computer doesn't have all that crap on it.

Yes I worry about security, but I don't do anything that requires downloading. I know I would make more money if I did the downloads but my computor is not very reliable.

That specific instance is due to Twitter not FC. By downloading or joining any programs/sites through FC you are opening yourself up to getting unwelcome mail, texts, emails, etc. In the fine print of any of the sites, it basically says they are giving your info away. I would suggest using a second email address to keep the spam separate from your real emails.

I agree with Skippy. Start a new email address to use for all the offers you're going to sign up for. It's much better than having your good email address overrun with spam.

Agreed, always use a "free" email set aside for offers that you don't care if it gets spammed, like a yahoo or gmail account.

Also, only download ANYTHING whether it's a game, facebook plugin, or whatever from companies you know or research and find to be legitimate. Have both a good antivirus AND at least one anti-malware program like Spybot or Malwarebytes on your computer and keep them updated. There are many good programs out there that are free, just make sure you download them from a reputable site. I run daily scans with both, depending on what I'm doing sometimes twice or more per day. With a good program the scans and any fixes shouldn't take more than a few minutes and can save you a lot of time, expense and hassle later on.

Manually clear cookies and cache after you log out of one site and before you log into the next. Not only does it help with tracking, but it helps keep your browser working faster and helps your offers credit better if you're working on multiple sites. I clear all cache and cookies across all browsers at least once a day using a cleaner program as well.

If a low paying, endless offer "survey" asks me for my phone number, I exit out without doing it. Especially if you're like me and only use a cell phone, that's guaranteed telemarketer calls and spam texts eating up your time and costing you money. Forget it.

If it's an offer I'm actually interested in, no problem. I want those car insurance quotes! Call me and save me money! 

Just be smart and you'll be just fine.

Have to agree with everyone, if you want to download use a different email address.  You will avoid all the spam emails you will receive.

I agree. Note that Fusion Cash has never been the source of a problem. I do not download anything unless I research the site and product first. Separate E-mail address for offers seems to work very well too.

To be honest with you, I am 100% skeptical about such things. The only reason I will download anything on these sites is if it will pay me a minimum of $1000 for downloading so that whatever complexities arise, I can easily afford another computer. Since that is out of the question, I resolved never to download anything for security and safety reasons. Just a personal resolve...

Anti-malware programs are different from antivirus programs and can be used at the same time. They scan for malicious code that most antivirus programs don't, and can often remove things like rootkits that regular antivirus programs usually can't. I usually go through CNET for free product reviews and downloads, but there are plenty of other reputable sources out there and they're FREE!

The two leading free anti-malware programs are Malwarebytes (sometimes called MBam) and Spybot Search and Destroy. I like MBam better, but that's a matter of personal taste. Or you can use both, some people do. If you choose MBam make sure you download the free version rather than the paid, it works just as well and has all the same updates available just not some of the advanced features most regular folks don't need. But if you have someone setting up special security programs or protocols on your pc, you might want to ask him about an anti-malware program before you install one. I don't know what you may have installed or what special programs they might not be compatible with, I only have the standard antivirus/firewall/anti-malware/cleaner programs anyone can (and should) pick up for free. It works fine with those.

I've always had trouble with toolbars too. They really slow my browser down and now I'm running Windows 8, which many aren't compatible with. So sadly, no FC searches for me either!

I hardly ever do anything where I have to download things. It scares me because my computor is very old and not too stable.

I hate the search toolbar, be careful when you download something, make sure to uncheck ads that include the search toolbars.  They are very difficult to uninstall.  I spent several hours, trying to figure out how to uninstall it  these search toolbars, like ask.com, inboxdollar, bing.com,.... they track what you browsing and direct their own ads to you.  It's like you've been watched while you are browsing.  The new AVAST has a new feature called Clean Your Browser which is a great help to uninstall these toolbars.  But do not pay for them, ask for several days trial, use it and cancel your trial.
