It is unfortunate about your predicament.  I had one where they sent me a check for $3500 dollars and wanted me to deposit it into an account.  I felt that there was something fishy about it and did not return the check nor did I do anything about it.  I had somebody phish me once.  I received an e-mail that the Internal Revenue Service owed me $694.  You know what I did?  I called the IRS and they told me I was being phished.  Back to you.  I would complain to the Better Business Bureau and if they don't do anything, it will be a lesson to you that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. :star:

Sorry to hear what happened to you pressman. You can also contact the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.Gov. I hope that helps and good luck.

I HOPE YOU WERE ABLE TO REPORT THIS.  I HAVE RECEIVED CHECKS  LIKE THIS - EVEN CASHIERS CHECKS, BUT NEVER CASHED THEM.  MINE CAME FROM AN AD I HAD PLACED ON EBAY.  YOU REALLY HAVE TO BE CAREFUL.

I received a check for several thousand dollars a few years ago.  I opened a new account in a different bank than my regular one, deposited the check and then waited.  Eventually the check came back but that just made my account go back to zero.

Most scams are only the result of greed and a lack of common sense. Think about it!  :BangHead:

Actually you should contact both the BBB and the FBI.

Always remember this, if someone wants you to pay to receive cash or asks for your personal info so you can get money from them...run away!

My Mom always told us if it sounded or looked to good to be true it probably wasn't true. Ahhh, the wisdom of our parents.

Yeah or at least almost. When I was about 18 I was looking or craigslist for jobs and there was this one about buying stuff and then mailing packages for them since they are 'away'. Its a common scam that I was unaware of back then. Anyway they send me a check for about 4000. I was suspicious then and never tried to cash it. A few days later the scammer called me but they were using an obvious voice hiding software, sounded like jigsaw from the saw movies. It really freaked me out and I told them I wasn't interested in the job anymore.

I received one of those checks, when they had called and emailed  I said no way.  I called the FBI and the local police and gave them everything, the bogus Money order the envelope it came in.  I just keep being amazed that they are still doing this, that people are still cashing the "checks".  :BangHead: Although I have to admit the money order did look pretty real. :crybaby2:  I think your bank is a good place to complain to also, they cashed the phoney money order.  Legit mystery shopper companies would not send you the money like that.  I work for about 7 different mystery shopping companies and I believe every one of them have a warning about that scam on their front page.  Message me and I will send you names of some good companies. (If that is allowed on here)
