Am I right or wrong to do this... need help asap

  I lost my Shadow almost two years ago, life hasn't been as great since...she was my inspiration, my motivation for doing most of what I loved to do.  Not being able to do anything to get her back totally sucks, she's missed so much. 
 
  I have thought about getting another dog...same breed (lab/pit mix).  I've even looked on-line at photos of adoptable dogs that looked quite a bit like her but...they aren't the same, something is just "missing" or perhaps it's because they just aren't her.

  If I ever do decide to get another dog, I would choose a variation on the name mainly because Shadow was the one that chose her name.  I had three names for her that I couldn't decide on and "Shadow" was the only one she would really respond to so it became hers.

  Animals all have different personalities & traits, they are all unique just like people.  It would be unfair to expect a new dog to live up to expectations of a previous pet.  Enjoy them as they are, for who they are and you'll both be happy whatever name you choose.  Make every day a great play day with them because the time goes by way too fast.

I wouldn't give the new dog the same name if it were me.  I have never done that because the new dog can never replace the old one and doesn't deserve to be compared to it.

Give it a different name. They are 2 different animals with different personalities.

I am sorry for your loss of your beloved pet, but I see nothing wrong with you naming it after your old pet (just put II or Jr. in the back of it).  At some point you will realize either they act just alike or they are different.  I had a dog that my cousin and I found on the railroad tracks as puppies when I was growing up and named her Missy.  She was my best friend.  My Aunt Fannie's first husband, Sammie, decided he wanted my dog and I said no.  He took my best friend and I saw her once more.  Unfortunately, the man was a fool.  He killed Missy because she was begging for some food.  In naming your new dog after your old dog, it is your way of keeping your memories alive.

I am sorry about the death of your dog. I see no problem giving the new dog the same name as the first one, however you must expect the new dog to behave a little diffrent than the first one. Please do not be dissapointed with the new dog.

Sorry hear about the lost of your dog. Personally, I wouldn't name the new dog the same name as the previous one. Dogs do have different personalities and may not live up to the expectations of the old dog. But ultimately, it's your choice and make sure you're happy with whatever you decide.

If I were going to do that, I would probably name it officially and then use a nickname like Junior or Miss such and such. It is entirely up to you.

How about using the same name and adding junior to it?  Ex:  Rosa Jr or whatever

Sorry for your loss. It depends do you live with other people who were affected by the death of the other dog. If so how do they feel about you giving the dod the same name. I think you should give it a different name. Maybe a name that is similar.

It's your dog, but I personally don't think it's a good idea to name it the same thing. Each new pet in your life should have a unique identity. How are you to distinguish between the memories of the old dog with the new if they are carbon copies of each other, down to the name...?

i had a bird that i loved and when she died i got a new one the same named it the same but it was just not the same.

:-  I will be making a big decission on a name in 2 weeks for my new dog. I want to name it after the one that just passed away. Is it right for me to name the dog after my deceased dog? I  will be getting the same breed dog and looks just like the deceased. would like some opinions asap.

I think the name is totally up to the owner and if that makes you happy - go for it!!!  If you wanted to you could add something like Jr. or the 2nd to distinguish!!!  Good luck with your new pal!!!!

It seems that all animals have different personalities. You might expect your new pet to be like your past pet and that wouldn't be fair to you or your new dog.  I would keep the memories of my good friend who has departed...then move on with my new friend with a new name.

ok everyone, I REALLY appreciate all the comments... i get my new dog saturday, march 9th... i am STILL undecided but i think i will feel guilty if i name the dog after the deceased one.... BUT on the other hand, i will feel guilty to name the new dog something else.. OH MY! I didnt know this was going to be so hard!! I wonder if I should wait longer before i take this dog home??
