Jury Duty

I just finished my 6th time of being called to be on jury duty. In our state when they request you show up for jury and you don't you can be finned. They go by our drivers lic., property tax bill and voter reg. It's not too bad, although a lot of just sitting and waiting and most end up pleading out or vacated.  But it is your duty.

I served jury duty a couple of times but mostly you sit and wait don't do much.

I thankfully haven't had jury duty in a while. but i dont like it.. not at all..

I've been called twice for jury duty now... The first time I was in grad. school, and my professor wasn't very pleased. He told to to try to get out of it by saying I was a student, but that didn't work; they even refused to dismiss a surgeon who was supposed to have some operations during that week. That first case, I was selected as one of the alternates, so I still had to attend the trial until it came time to give a verdict... However after opening arguments were heard, the lawyers got together behind closed doors and eventually settled before even getting into the meat of the trial.

The second time I was selected as one of the actual jurors. That one went the entire course of the trial. It was interesting to hear the arguments and look at all of the evidence. But it was a civil trial, so it didn't take too long; I think we finished midway through the 4th day...

My dad was actually called for a highly publicized (in our area) murder trial, and had to be sequestered for the duration of the trial. I guess that was very interesting for him to attend, since he got to see much more than what the press disclosed to the general public.

There isn’t much you can do other than you have already done what you could. To be summoned for jury duty can disrupt an individual’s work schedule, but it’s a civic duty for U.S. citizens. Employers cannot dismiss an employee on jury duty by law. You’ll only miss work for one full day if you’re not selected for the jury panel.  I served jury duty on trial last year and I’m glad I won’t be summoned for at least 2 years.

Every five years I am call for jury duty, and I do not mind.  My daughter was call for the first time for jury duty, but she is away at college.  She will have to see if she can get out of jury duty or move the date back.
