Jury Duty
« on: February 16, 2013, 07:59:31 am »
So tomorrow I have to call in to see if Monday I need to report to jury duty. I don't mind it, but it is totally screwing up my schedule for work. I have people scheduled on standby in case I have to go in. It would just be easier if they said "Hey, for the next week everyday you will be reporting for jury duty from 8am to 4pm. Make your arrangements as necessary."  Any thoughts?    :sad1:

I think that there should be an incentive behind going to jury duty. You should be paid your regular wage for one week whether you are chosen or not. After a week your wage should be at time and a half.  Whe it comes time to render a verdict your pay should be half of what you would normally make so that decisions occur in an expedited fashion. The guilty party should pick up all costs of the jurors chosen...god save the guilty party if they get a multi-millionaire on the jury!  Nobody wants to do jury duty because of the disruption of life so why not make it worth the juror's time?  You won't have as much fall out and you have jurors that will actually stay awake.

I had jury duty years ago when I was still in high school, I had to leave school to attend, their thoughts are not on you. They offered no reason and accepted no excuses.

I have been lucky that I have never once been called for jury duty! I guess it was because I was in the military and they very rarely or never use Military personnel because they may need to deploy at a minutes notice. I have been retired (from Military) for 15 years and still have not been called. I guess I should not complain, I hear it is a pain. My wife was called once!

I was called for jury duty the end of last month. It was the busiest time for me to take off. I was able to delay it for a few months when I will be less busy  .
I had totally forgotten about it until  now.

Jury Duty is not that bad.  Yeah, it may interrupt your life, but so what.  I served on a jury in the 80's, you get out of work, they pay you, they pay your for travel and it was interesting.  I recently got called again, but this time I got excused because of a medical issue.

I've always wanted to go to jury duty, but have never been invited. I think it would be kind of fun actually.

I have never been called for jury duty!     I worked for the court system in the past and would always tell the jury coordinator to make sure I was called but no such luck......

I have been summoned twice for jury duty. I was not picked either time. Sat for 3 hours while the judge pled out cases before he told which quadrant of prospective jurors need to come back after lunch.

How do they choose people to do Jury work. I am in two minds, when it comes to do Jury work. I hink maybe is a lottery system that they use. what do you say?

I got lucky when I called and didn't have to go but I was worried all week. It sure was a relief when they said I was excused.

I don't like the way the system works where you have to call in the evening before your jury date and see if your going to jury duty or not.  They should just set a date whether you go in or you don't so it won't mess up peoples schedules.

While I understand that it is your civil duty to serve as a juror, it is at times inconvenient.  If you work, you have to take off to be paid less than you were being paid if you were at work.  I recall serving as a juror on a trial, and it was not the simplest thing to do.  It would be a lot more worth it if you were being paid fairly.  The last time I served on jury duty, I was paid $17.  That is not enough to sneeze at. :) ;D
