Locked!
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:54:44 pm »
Have you ever lock yourself out of your car by accident while the car’s engine was running? It happened to me once. I was lucky someone was home to open the door for me so I can get inside the house to grab my spare key to unlock the car. ;D I promised myself this will never ever happen again.

I haven't done this and hopefully never will. My cousin has done this before without realizing and drained the car's battery. My uncle (her father) was definitely upset with her.

I've locked myself out of the car, but never with the engine running.  The worst one was at a historic site in a small mountain town.  The ranger had to call the locksmith from the nearest town to come out.  I had a Toyota Corolla with smooth tabs for the inside locks.  The ranger was on one side and the locksmith on the other, both struggling to get the levers up so they didn't break the mechanism.  :-[

Don't think I've ever done that but I'm usually very careful if I'm going to leave it running and get out. Wouldn't popping the hood and disconnecting the battery kill the engine?  :dontknow:
Might screw up one of the computers or something though. I guess you'd have to have some tools also. Oh well got AAA so I'd call them 1st. Unless my phone was in the car....

I have locked my keys in the car once. Had to call the motor club, but before they got there the sheriff's department came by and slim-jimmed the car door. Called the motor club back to cancel the rescue order.

I've locked my keys in the car a few times - usually when i'm in a hurry.  Never with the car running though.

:)I have done that before with out leaving the engine running, but either way its frusturating and if you don't have insurance even tougher. One time had to have someone open my car with a hanger.

I locked both sets of my keys in the car while it was running.  I felt like an idiot. Fortunately I had left the window open abour an inch and I could get a ruler in there and hit the unlock button.  What a relief that was.

I did that once in college.  Cant' recall how it happened, but remembered the car was running for quite a while.  I think I had to wait for my roommate to come home to get into the apartment to get my spare key to get back into the car to turn it off.  My apartment key was on the key chain inside the running car (DOH!).

Don't think I've ever done that since.

I have done this once. I wasn't at home so I had to get a ride home to get my hubby's key and go back. My daughter hit the lock button as she was getting out and I hollered "Don't shut the door" but it was too late.  :sad1:
I have also locked my keys in the vehicle while not running. Again, had to get a ride home to get spare key (hubby was out of town) and go back.

Ok.  We did this one time when we were visiting family in Maine.  We called AAA to come and open it was on a weekend.  AAA could not find anyone in an 2 hour drive that would come and do it because it was the weekend.  We were able to finially able to get  into the car and were ok but I called and complained to AAA after.  they said that happens to them sometimes with remote areas.  So we learned a lesson.  Anytime we make sure that we each have a key to the car so that  we have a spare.

no, but my wife's sister locked the car with it running. Her baby was inside, so she broke the window

I've locked my keys in my vehicle a few times at work, but not with the car running. I had to call my parents who have a spare key, to come unlock my door. You'd think I would have learned my lesson after the first time!
The scariest time when I locked my keys in my vehicle was once when I stopped after work to pick up cans on the side ofhte road. After loading up several bags, I went back to my vehicle and put them inside, then went for another load, not rrealizing I left my keys in the back with the bags of cans. Then when I cam back, they weren't in my pocket, and I thought for sure I had dropped them somewhere. I was able to reach in the front window and unlock the door, since it was summer and the window was half open. When I put the rest of the cans in the back, I found my keys. I was worried I'd have to sit their all night, since I couldn't drive away without my keys!
