Is it racism to.....
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:18:32 pm »
Just wondering if it could be considered racism to vote for someone of the same race simply because they are of the same race?

I suppose it could be seen this way.  However, if you're a smart voter, you would actually look in to each candidate's credentials in order to make a better choice.  I didn't see that too much in the past Presidential election.  I DO believe that many people voted on a race basis rather than the particular candidate's worth.  Don't get me wrong, I don't care what color a candidate is.  If I think he or she fits the needs of my country, I will vote for him/her.  I personally didn't particularly care very much for either candidate.  I simply chose the lesser of two evils because there was no other choice.  I also tend to believe that voting, these days, is fixed.  Too much fraud going on and not enough investigations in to it.  We are ALL sheep being led to the slaughter.

Racism would be more of voting against a person because of their race

I don't consider that racism, but you wouldn;t want to vote for someone without knowing what they believed in.

Yes, most definitely.  To vote for someone simply because they are the same race would be racist.

I don't think it would be necessarily racist.  But it would be a stupid thing to do.  Although people probably vote for one candidate over another for even dumber reasons than that.

Sometimes I really think if there were no word  called "racism" THE ENTIRE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE.  Voting should be done on the basis of what a candidate believes in and what the person voting believes THE CANDIDATE WILL DELIVER!!!!  Sadly, the other side of this is all the voting has been let's just say, less than honest!!!!  If there really were "CLEAN ELECTIONS" then the candidate with the better credentials would win.  It seems this whole voting process has become way to corrupt.  So, it really doesn't matter what color a person's skin is - but rather, IS THIS PERSON THE BEST MAN/WOMAN FOR THE JOB!!!!  SO FAR, NONE OF THESE BOZOS IS!!!!!!!!!!!

No one will ever really know who you vote for in the long run, as voting is private. I believe it is not racism it is a preference in general like it would be if you were choosing to buy a red car over a blue car because red is your favorite color. As long as you don't have negative feelings for the other side of the equation nor put the other side down in any way than in my opinion it's fine.

I don't think its racism its looking out for your own. I think that many Americans have forgotten how to look out for their own and should get back to that. I would like to know if this question is being asked just because we have a black president? :icon_rr: Don't get it wrong I am white and I voted for Obama. I honestly don't think these type of questions would be asked if the President was white. What we all need to accept is there won't be any black or white in the near future there will just be people with sand color. Imagine that time...wow...no race conversations...what bliss!

In my opinion, I would have to say it is a racist line of thought.  I think that the choice of candidate should be based on experience and qualification.  President Obama, Colin Powell, Hillary Clinton...all great choices...black, white, female is not the point...the point is...highest levels of government experience and knowledge of how Capitol Hill REALLY works.

sounds like you are making a choice based on ONLY the race, not their values or beliefs. If you want to call it racism, then I guess it is racism. I try to vote on principals and beliefs, not the ethinic origin of the person. Also racism, does not have to be the color of skin. There are many white races that hate each other, like Bosnian and Croat. I don't think one is more white than the other. Can you tell the difference?

If that is what you are doing, you are not the only one.  I am a die-hard Democrat, so I vote Democratic.  Race has no barrier on the election from my point of view.  I do the best I can and trust that God will keep them on the straight and narrow. :D ;D

It may be considered racism and/or prejudice but either way its wrong. To vote for someone just because they are the same race for you, they could have horrible policies and still make it into a high position. Race shouldn't have anything to do with people in general. We are all a part of the same race, the human race.
