Healthy Food Ideas???
« on: February 01, 2013, 04:49:22 pm »
So on Netflix I watched a movie called "Hungry for a Change" and it was a documentary on food and it really opened my eyes to all the bad stuff we put into our bodies! So I was wondering it anyone has any good recipes for things that are good for you?

Don't buy into most documentaries. They're biased and mostly hype.

I don't have any recipes available for you, but if you really want the BEST - BUY ORGANIC, including your meat.  You'll taste the difference immediately and will never go back to the junk the stores are selling these days.  I buy my meats from places like Sprouts and Fry's (Kroger).  At Fry's, they have their own "organic" brand called "Simple Truth" and everything I've tried under that brand name has been FABULOUS to say the least.

Now that the Doctor told my hubby that he is diabetic we are changing our eating patterns to not eat processed food (almost EVERYTHING is processed), so good luck!

Well learn to cook because the easiest way to control what you eat is to make the food yourself. You can also alter recipes to your preferences in diet. For instance. I like brownies. When I cook brownies from scratch with a recipe I substitute half the butter with Greek yogurt. I also use whole wheat flour, ground flax seed and ground 7 grain oats for my flour. Instead of baking squares I use unsweetened cocoa powder. I also substitute half the sugar with Stevia (a natural sweetener that is diabetic friendly). You may need a couple of tries to get the recipe the way you want it but in the end it will be much healthier than any store brand product you buy. This also lets you pick and chose what you are most concerned about. If you have a gluten or lactose sensitivity or are diabetic you may want to alter the recipe in a different way. As for recipes just search online for the type of recipe you want and make small alterations to fit your diet if needed.

I lean towards healthy cookbooks.  The most recent I checked out from our local library was how foods can affect fibromayalgia.  It had a few recipe's in it that were fantastic.  Also Dr. Fuhrman's books are real eye openers.  Many recipe's of his were way to tree hugging for me but the gist of what to use and what not to use was very helpful.  We started eating healthy just over a year ago and if we don't have at least one salad a day with our meals...packed with Kale, spinach, been sprouts, onions, squash, fruit, seeds, etc... our bodies feel like poo.

I stopped eating meats a long time ago, and our veggies are not the best...I was looking at the pack that cherries were in at a supermarket and they were from Chile and some berries were from Mexico....the fish was from China...I think the greens were from here not sure no label....my dream is to grow my own garden, that's how I was raised...we could fish in more places than we are allowed to now....

I get me some broccoli, green pepper, onions, mushrooms, spinach and I put them in a dish with real butter and beat me 2 or 3 eggs, depending on the size of the dish, add some milk and cheese and I add some creme cheese and beat it well then pour it over the veggies and bake in the oven...delicious I know it's Quiche but it's delicious....I buy morning star products a lot...

I take mushrooms and add sage and red pepper and saute and cook some rice and it's a meal...sometimes I cook a piece of fish to go with...
