Im all about using a credit union! Ive worked in the banking world my whole life and I will alway use a credit union. High rates of returns and lower fees.

Credit unions have the best interest, by far.  I used to have Bank of America and ditched it for the credit union.

Typically the credit unions do. I have one with a credit union as well as a money market account.

If you think you can earn a lot of interest on a savings account, well I have a golden bridge to sell to you.

Online banks typically have the best savings interest rate not that you will find a very high one.  Credit unions are the way to go in general. Low fees and great service.

Are Credit Unions only for people who belong to certain organizations, or have certain professions?

Online savings accounts are good. I used to bank with ING Direct now known as Capital One 360.  But now I use Ally bank....it pays a higher interest rate although ING is a little easier to use.  I also didn't like that it's now owned by Capital One.

I found as far as savings accounts go, online ones tend to have the best rates currently.  I recently went the direction of using an interest bearing checking account (one of the "rewards" checking accounts).  Many of those are paying more than the online savings account.  The downside to the rewards checking accounts is that everything is geared to be handled online (online statements, need at least one deposit per month), and they require a certain number of signature based transactions with the debit card.  I planned ahead for the account I signed up for to make sure I would always be able to make the number of transactions, and planned my budget to only spend within my set amount - then the extra I put in the account is my growing "savings".

I actually made more in interest in one month with that account than I made with my regular savings account the whole year (and the savings account had 3x the balance).  I plan to save up in the account until I hit the max, then consider where else to put my money...

I like online accounts.  Was going to open one with Sallie Mae they have a high interest rate.  Check out bankrate.com you can compare banks and see which has the highest rates.
