What would you do if you went Blind
« on: January 21, 2013, 07:52:59 pm »
:crybaby2:would you lay down and cry? would you feel like it's the end of the world that you know? Well it's not the end of the world. You know how I know? Because I'm legally blind now. I've been this way for 3 years, after I've had a fairly longevity of being able to see like you do, or better. I've been trying to promote my children's book to aid those who have this rare eye disease like I do. This is how I've dealt with the blindness. I'm unable to do the work that I've done for the last 30 years, and am still coming up with new ways to keep me from feeling sorry for myself.  Oh and the 1 thing I really hate? The feeling in my finger tips, or should I say non feeling. I think I've burned off my finger prints trying to cook.  Yoweee. So this is me. How about you. Where would you be if you went blind?

My best friend in college was blind.  He was a sniper instructor in the Marine Corps, and then lost his sight in an offshore accident.  Like 100% sight loss kind of blind.  There was NOTHING he didn't do that we did!  He even learned to knee board while blind.  He had lots of different ways to make things easier for him (we folded his money in certain ways for different bills, he ran his teeth around the conditioner bottle to know the difference between shampoo and conditioner, etc).  After being around him for so many years, it made me realize anything is do-able!  Only because of him do I think I would be okay!

That's my worst nightmare but I'd have no choice but to learn how to live with it.

Awesome replies, thanks for the input. Someone once told my family how I deal with it.  I look at it as a new adventure. I have the bumps, burns and booboos to prove it. Writing keeps me sane. I never run out of material. Thats why I wrote the children's book. Life is an adventure. If Helen Keller can do it, so can I. I still have other senses, and let me tell you, they really do amplify.

I would not like it. I would feel that I would have to depend upon someone else.  Also, I do not know if I could deal with it.  It is one thing to be born blind.  But when it is taken
away, it would be more crippling.

I'd possibly be in the pit of depression.  I admire you and can only pray I would find something to devote my life to outside of myself.

I honestly have no idea how I would deal with that. The thought of it seems devastating, but I guess you find a way to deal with what you have to.

Well, I certainly hope that like you I would persevere and try to cope the best I could with the situation.  It is certainly no comparison but I have trouble walking  and constant pain due to scoliosis and multiple back surgeries.  I always try to look at it like whatever difficulty I am facing isn't as bad a what some other folks are going through.  Best of luck to you dealing with your situation.

Since I have medical problems, I would have to deal with the problems like I always do.

I would try to make the best of it.  I read a story about a lady who was an artist (painter) who went blind suddenly and she just started back trying to paint. Her art was different but still good.

I probably would be angry for a little while but then I would pick myself up, dust myself off and Plow on especially since I am a pig-headed person who when told "you can't do that" makes me want to do it even more and makes me try and try again until I can!!!!  A positive approach always keeps you going.  Good luck to you and remember YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

I would deal with it.  Maybe God has something special in mind and I have to be blind to understand it. :) ;D
