Anyone else homeschool their children?

I was homeschooled through middle school. Most of the kids there were...ehhhh....not the smartest bunch, the school actually "dumbed down" the curriculum so that most people could at least get a passing grade. As a result, pretty much everyone there had something against people who were average and up.
Stupid Kansas educational system. Even the teachers, too. So I kind of convinced my mother to homeschool through middle school, she was thinking about it anyway. After she watched a 5th grade spelling bee that used 2nd grade words and still lasted 2 hours long. There were like 30 kids in the 5th grade. About 15 competed. 2 HOURS.

I wasn't really a people person anyway then, it didn't bother me.

ummm lets see. no, i think kids should go to a regular school, public or private. i went to public school i turned out pretty good, beside going to a public school in my opinion biulds character

My boyfriend was home schooled, his parents are still homeschooling his 11 yr and 7 yr old siblings. They are all extremely bright. His first public school experience was college and he had no issues adjusting socially. The real problem was the extreme religion he was raised in but he left that "church" and is now a fully functioning rockin' guy
We plan on homeschooling our son unless we move to an area with better public schools. I don't want my son to get the beginning of his education in the SC public school system, which fails so many families every year I also would like to avoid him  developing a southern accent, its tacky imo.

I was home-schooled until I graduated from High School.

What? Really!!! Am Surprised... i send my elder one 4 yr to montessori school, but, still just try to make her read, write and do some math work at home, and my little is most interested in listening to the stories i read for my elder one.

I will be homeschooling my son, who is almost 4.  We have some other friends who also homeschool their kids and it's going really well.

I have considered home schooling my son.  The school systems in Kentucky are all jacked up.  They have a system called (KERA) Kentucky Education Reform Act.  They started it when I was in the 8th grade and it is nothing but a money game.  They don't care about the kids, they just worry about the tests at the end of the year that gives the teachers extra money, and I agree that they are trying to cram to much into our kid's heads too early.  They are trying to make them grow up to fast.  Let them be kids.  They will have enough worries when they get older.

My parents homeschooled me and all my siblings. I think homeschooling is great, and the level of education far exceeds the public schools. I encourage you to look into it. There are homeschool curriculum programs that provide lesson plans, books, and tutor assistance if you need it. You can do a search on the internet. Also, be sure you find out all the requirements for homeschooling in you particular state, so you don't get in trouble. If you go to www.hslda.org, you can find summaries of all the requirements for all 50 states.

I work with my son, he is in 2nd grade, hoping it will help him, he is doing
very poorly in English and spelling..

I homeschool all of my children, except the baby, he's still too little .They are aged 17 months, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, & 15, five boys and two girls.

  I do not have anything against homeschooling because as a matter of matter some students do better at home than at school. The reason for this is that at home they get more attention. Kids can ask all the questions they want and they are all answered. The teacher-student ratio is much, much better: one-to-one. Schools are sometimes overcrowded. The teacher-student ratio is sometimes pretty bad. If you do not wish to  homeschool your kids you can still do them a favor: Offer tutorial services at home, help them with their homework, make sure they complete all assignments and answer all their questions. Good luck, my friends, kids should have all their needs met.

i did with my oldest son. the school psychologist p-ed me off when he offered parents parenting advice - he was childless - just a textbook psychologist!
we used to be at a huge school, 600 kids per grade. now we are at a small central school and so far, things are good. i have a 12,7,&5 year old at home-12 more years of school - would do it again - some schools do do their job but, what i'm seeing now, is that these kids are learning 3rd grade work in kindergarten-no naptime, recess isn't a given and there is homework in kindergarten and first grade! I'm just curious if in 20 years  it will have made a difference compared to their previous generation...are these kids going to be more sucessful or, no difference at all?

I actually would wish I had learned that stuff a lot earlier.  The abilities I could have gained aren't there.  As the saying goes, if you don't use it, then it goes and that's what happened to me.  Taking your time is one thing, but if you have all that time, might as well use it.  I got sick of school by my sophomore year.  I think the sooner the kid understands the curriculum, the earlier they can get the heck out.  I graduated my junior year, by the way and I am learning about life.
