Usually pray and put the issue in God's hands.  I have found at 59 there is little I can do to solve things that upset me.  My husband called 911 and went to the hospital this afternoon and now they are admitting him to ICU.  I don't know what to do except just pray.  Beyond that if things bother me I do like most suggested try to get my mind off things, find someway to make myself laugh, watch a movie.  My grown sons are really good at putting things into perspective and after I talk to them I always feel better.

I listen to music, talk with friends, take a walk, or curl up on the sofa and watch something relaxing on the tv.

@Debidoo, I hope everything turned out alright with your husband.  I have been away for awhile because shortly after I started this thread I took my dad to the ER because he also was trying to get over the flu that we all had and he was short of breath.  Well, he was in congestive heart failure and they found he had atrial fibrillation.  They first said they were going to do stents but when they transferred him to the hospital to have it done, they said stent were not the best solution, he needed triple bypass.  The next day they found that he needed an aortic valve replacement.  The day after that during a CAT scan, they found a huge mass on one of his kidneys that they say is cancer.  So, that is why I have been away.  He had the heart surgery and is starting to recover now at home.  Since my mom is bedbound, I have been living at their house or the hospital for the last three weeks.  As soon as he is well enough he will be having a kidney removed.  There is some good news.  They have not found any sign that the cancer has spread, so I am praying they don't change their mind on that later.

So, I guess if I think I needed cheering up before, I can be happy right now that my dad is alive and at least part way through this ordeal.  I am sooooo tired, but I just want to help him get through it.

I usually will listen to music, watch movies or have a nice meal or dessert.  Sometimes having a long hot bath makes me feel better, too.

I will usually watch a funny movie I have seen before.  That way I know for sure I will laugh.  Also, I make a special effort with my hair and makeup--I figure if I look better, I will feel better  :)
I usually talk to my friends when I need cheering up. one year, I was angry and started watching Beavis and Butt-head, and forgot what I was angry about.
many times, if you can help someone who is not in a good mood, you will cheer up as well.

I listen and sing along to my favorite songs. I write stories to vent out my feelings. I play video games. Sometimes I talk about it to my closest friends. And my favorite, shopping.

Weeelll - the bible says you have to seek peace, it doesn't just fall in your lap but I know sometimes it's hard - the other day I turned on my favorite song and danced to the whole thing with my 21 month old and that did the trick  :)

A few times in my life when I have been beside myself with depression or worry, I sat down and watched hours of America's Funniest Home Videos.  It didn't solve my problems but I promise it takes me out of my own worries for a short period of time and makes me laugh no matte how bad I feel.
I can always count on God, Steve Harvey, & Ellen Degeneres  ;D and I know things could always be worse  :peace:
