free help needed on a manuscript
« on: January 08, 2013, 06:47:14 am »
I have written an inspirational mystery novel and need some "free help" in getting it re-written, edited and published.  Anyone out there have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate it as I cannot afford someone to help me with it.  Thank you.

Just as a suggestion, you might contact a journalism or literature professor at a nearby college to ask the same question.  I have no idea if anything like critiquing your work could be used as a class project or not, but at least the instructor might be able to steer you in the right direction or provide you with contact information.

You can sometimes find writing groups on-line. I used to belong to one that was for SciFi / Fantasy, but it got to be too much work to stay active (esp. since writing was more of a hobby for me). Some of those site you have to pay for in order to get access, but this ensures that only serious / professional writers join, and they also tend to use the money earned to help the writers in the community get published. The site I was a part of was free, but they required you to critique others works to remain active (I think it was something like 3 critiques a month for short stories, or 1 if you were working with someone on their novel).

You may also want to check your local library; they will sometimes also have writing / critique groups where you share your manuscripts with others and get feedback from them.

WaulML6, I am a published author and my wife has published 5 books. Is this your first?

Congrats on writing your novel.  I hope to the same someday.  Here's a suggestion for you, although not free.  You might want to advertise on fiverr.  That's a site where you can advertise and if someone accepts, you only pay $5.  You can also bid on jobs there too.  Congrats again and best wishes for getting it published.

Yes, this is my first novel Terry.  You said you and your wife are published writers.  So how did you do it?  Thanks for your replies
