Should Guns be banned in America?
« on: January 08, 2013, 06:38:06 am »
Oh Yes, the big question...do we need them to defend ourselves, and if we need them to defend ourselves, do people not know what kind of weapons the United States has, no gun will save a citizen from a government take over, but personally should you use a gun to defend yourself? Could keeping them in the home be dangerous, because of children, ect. after all, didn't that kid get his mothers gun, who was keeping it to protect them from something that could happen, isn't this essentially making the same mistake that was just made but trying to jusitify it without realizing this is why all these people got shot, because she was scared of a government takeover.

I don't think guns should be banned but you never know what a person with a gun can do.

I think guns should not be banned. They may or may not be able to defend themselves from a government takeover, but they can use guns to defend themselves from other threats such as burglars or criminals. Some people have guns to hunt, or collect them because its a hobby they enjoy and can be responsible, but should they be punished because of bad people?

How come we always hear about the bad that guns do and "jerk-kneed" try to get them banned? Yet when guns are successfully used to protect someone or someone's property, nothing is ever mentioned. Prob'ly because violence sells.... If you actually look at some statistics, areas that have more liberal laws concerning guns (conceal-and-carry, etc.) have less gun violence because if someone thinks of shooting another person, they may get discouraged not knowing who else is packing. There have even been some teachers that argue to allow teachers, principles, and law enforcement officers in the schools to carry guns so as to curtail these mass shootings as early as possible. Instead of allowing a person to run rampant around the school for several minutes until police arrive (which may be several miles away in some cases), if a person at the school had access to a gun as well, they may be able to corner, disarm, or even shoot the would-be mass shooter. Since more people in the general public are law abiding, laws would only hurt these people. Remember that there are laws against killing other people, but those don't seem to prevent murder esp. in these situations. If someone is planning on going on some mass killing spree, they prob'ly wouldn't even bat an eye over gun laws; they'd get their weapon any way they could whether through legal or illegal means.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.  If we would ban all guns do you really think it would make any difference to the people who want to get them?  Where there's a will, there's a way.  I think if we banned guns only the "good" people would turn the guns in.  If you think any hoodlums or gang members would, you're only kidding yourself.

to lynne - so have you seen what kind of governments preside over the people in countries ate banned and possession of a gun, punishable by governmental law? Granted  and I agree, a gun won't protect a child from a bad government. Our own government can impose Marshall Law should "IT" deem necessary but I think it is more about how we educate and teach our children about gun usage and the morals we impose in both the home and society. I owned one for years when I was raising my daughters. We lived in a bad neighborhood and not the finances to move out of it or the area. Their father was gone for 4-6 wks at a time as an over-the-road trucker. Our home had already been broken into once. Both girls had anger issues but NEVER once did they reach for my gun. Why, because they where taught death is final. Life is not a TV show where everyone gets saved. To have respect for another's life. But carrying a gun 24-7 does change your mind set. Besides, you'd NEVER EVER rid the U.S. of every weapon. They would only increase the black market trade. Where there is no idea who has what

I have to say that I agree that guns can be scary things, but only if we are not taught the value of life.  Any Life!  Animals, people it's all the same.  A bullet goes in, a life goes out.  Only though educating our children can we live with guns.  Guns do not point themselves and shoot.  People do!  Killing for food is one thing, killing for sport is another.  Gun control is not the answer, education is.

I think that guns are not the problem; it's the people who use them.  I had a friend for 3 years who died because he considered everyone a good friend.  He took this guy around his relatives and introduced him as a "20 year-old friend".  Unfortunately, this friend had just gotten out of prison for committing 2 murders.  He was supposed to be taking this guy home when the guy pulled a gun on him and told him he wanted the car, which belonged to his boss.  My friend said no, and a fight ensued in the car between my friend and the guy.  The guy hit him in the head with the butt of the gun and shot him in the heart, robbed him and left him for dead.  My friend died at 3:30 pm on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the age of 46 years old.  He had just celebrated his 46th birthday on September 18 of that year.  His death affected me greatly.  I miss my friend a lot.  RIP Warren Roosevelt "Candyman" Johnson.

I think that people should be checked out before issuing them a gun.  Look at the 20 year-old in Newton, Connecticut who killed his mom, went to a school and killed 20 children and 6 adults.  That truly hurt me because what had the kids done to him that deserved them having to die?

Maybe not banned but maybe stores should stop selling them everywhere's you go. At least cut down on the quantity being sold. Basically I am saying, you have to start somewheres with this epidemic. :BangHead:

There is positive and negative to this issue but in my opinion, comes down to one thing, you can't effectively ban guns, if guns are banned the bad guys will continue to have guns and if you were to be able to ban guns then bad guys will use knives, homemade shanks, hammers whatever - law abiding citizens have to continue to be able to have weapons.

I don't believe that guns should be banned, assult rifles mabe,, or just the clips that hold a lot of bullets in themi know a lot of people who own guns and never a bit of trouble. I personally don't own or carry one, but when i was working i always carried a stun gun. Had to use it once. Iworked 2 jobs and one of them i didn't get off until after midnight and i felt that i needed some form of protection.

Should guns be banned in America?  Only if your a government looking for COMPLETE CONTROL of the PEOPLE.  This is not about guns, it's about CONTROL.

"When the government fears the people there is liberty; when the people fear the government there is tyranny."
