The brand should not matter much. Look for a car within your price range first, then look/think or research the brand second.

i have a ford taurus its good on gas milage and all around good car.
Friends of mine always get hondas. Those are really good even the older ones.

The exact brand that's best is a matter of personal preference, but I have found that Kia and Mitsubishi are a good bang for the buck. If you know anyone who is mechanically savvy and willing to let you drag them around, try checking tow yards. I'm not sure if this is true everywhere, but in California if your car is towed and not picked up within a certain number of days, the tow company automatically takes ownership of the vehicle. The tow yards turn around and sell the cars, some of them directly to the public. If you can evaluate a car for mechanical soundness fairly reliably, you can sometimes get a killer deal on a pretty good car.

May not be your cup of tea, but me and my dad both have old 67 VW Beetles. They don't as long as newer cars do, but they're pretty reliable for around 100000 miles and are very cheap. The one I have is probably valued around 2-3 thousand, but we fixed up and old one our Uncle gave us for free so it only cost us around a couple hundred in parts and a lot of manual labor. It has great gas mileage for being so old.

We just got a new Ford Fusion a couple months ago and really like it.

We went to a car show a few weeks ago and after looking at all of them, we were most impressed by the Fords.  I like the Escape, but have been driving a Taurus for years, and will consider getting another Taurus.  I do have an issue with all the new changes.  I guess as you get older, you have to adjust with the times.  I can't find a new car with a bench seat or a gear shift up on the steering column.  I know that shouldn't be a big deal, but it's what I'm used to and would prefer to continue the tradition, but looks like I'm going to have to adjust!

I would recommend looking at a Kia. I just bought a brand new one for less than 12K (after trade in). The base models MSRP for less than 16K. They also have a great warantee. 10 years/100,000 miles.

I have a Hyundia and love it. Have never had an problems with it. The price isn't too bad.

Ha  :peace:ha now you are in really big trouble. All these cars seem to be fine and there you go . You really have to be lucky with the cars they are like TVs either they work fine forever or you always have trouble with them. I guess you gone have to make your own pick and live with it.
