HOw many senseless acts of violence must our country have to endure. Just last week someone else weent on a rampage and killed people, but they were not school children under 12. What has happened to our 20 year-olds. Is their life so bad that they must resort to these types of things.  I am sorry to say that I see no solution for the future. When I went to school, they were no guards or guns. Is counseling the answer or is there any prevention available? My heart is breaking for the parents and the surviving children. Their Christmas will be forever marred! It is just so SAD!

I only hope this is a wake up call for people to acknowledge we cannot stop senseless violence as there will always be rotten apples out there. The only way to prevent such things is to understand people and try to help them if they are acting oddly. We each have the potential to stop something from escalating negatively.

When will we ever learn?  How long will we keep quoting Second Amendment rights for everyone?  How long will we allow assault weapons and body armor to be bought online by anyone?  There is something we can do.  We can change the laws.  I have watched legislators all evening saying things like this is not the time to talk about changing the laws, this is the time to grieve.  Oh, I assure you the parents and relatives of the victims will be grieving.  Then some time passes and nothing more is said.  I have nothing against citizens having guns for protection and for hunting, but what private person needs assault rifles?  Our forefathers who signed the Constitution did not foresee deranged people going into schools and malls and killing as many as they can.  And it is sometimes impossible to tell if someone is acting strangely.  Some ill people can act normally until they finally snap - without warning.  How many times have you heard someone being interviewed after a shooting saying, "I never would have known.  They seemed so normal."  There have now been 40 + school shootings.  I, for one, think now is the time to do something.  As I just heard someone say on a special news report, "It will happen again.  It may be a day, a week, or a month.  But it will happen again."  This time it took 3 days.  My heart goes out to everyone in this town now touched by tragedy.  "Each child of the slaughter belongs to each of us."  (Diane Sawyer)

I responded in another post about this, too.  Our family will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.  I feel just awful for that happening, and killing children like that - there are no excuses, causes, or reasons for that happening.

I'll second this. but beyond that they also need understanding and the time to grieve without being bothered. and if any of the families are part of the FC nation or know someone who is  and would like to talk to someone who has lost a child and can understand some of what you are feeling i'll listen and talk if you want

The assault weapons ban would not have made a difference. His main weapons were a couple of 9mm pistols. Gun registrations would not have helped, because they weren't his guns anyway. Connecticut already has very strict gun control laws, but apparently that didn't work! When will people stop trying to punish all the law abiding citizens for the crimes of deranged maniacs? Many more children die each year from car accidents caused by drunk drivers, so how about not letting anyone drive any more? If we get all the vehicles off the roads, then no drunk people will be able to kill innocent children, or any one else.
By the way, why is a gun bad becuase of the way it looks? There are plenty of hunting rifles that are far more powerful and "deadly" than the so-called assault rifles. And on top of that, there are a lot of reasons why private people need or want these bad- looking guns. They are easy to hold, and operate, don't have a lot of recoil, making them great for smaller people to be able to control them.

I agree with Southernhorizons post. Guns really aren't the bad guy here. They're the tool, but not the malice behavior. Responsible people should be able to get them. Morgan Freeman said it best I think-

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

I said this in another post guns do not kill people it is the crazy people with guns that kill people. There is something to be done about how these people can get a hold to these guns so easily even with the laws that are in place. These young lives taken from they parents is a sad thing to happen and this should be prevented from keep happening.
