Gag Gifts
« on: December 10, 2012, 09:31:10 pm »
What has been the funniest gag gift you have ever gotten or given?  I had a friend who knew of my love for model trains who gave me a box car but before he gave it to me he super glued the wheels so that they would not turn.

My brother is into trains.  I'd never do that to him.  It doesn't sound very funny to me.

The gaggiest thing I've done is to wrap a small thing in many layers.  I remember one Christmas when we gave my brother a box to carry and store his cassette tapes in.  It had a lock on it.  I wrapped the box and hid it behind the tree, then wrapped the key separately.  I wrapped the key, put it in a tiny box and wrapped that, then a bigger container, over and over until it was in a potato chip can, which I wrapped.  We had him unwrap that one first.  He was happy to think he got a can of potato chips, but we had him open them.  He kept going and going, finally uncovering the key.  Then we kept the box for last.  He played along trying the key on every gift, but had no clue what it actually went to until he unwrapped the box.  ;D

The funniest thing I got was when my grand aunt got my dad's present and my present mixed up.  He got smily face towels and I got men's socks.  Oops.  ???

I would like to find one of those fake winning Lotto tickets.  I think it would be very funny to see the reaction on peoples faces.

There used to be a comercial for netflix or gamefly - I can't remember which, where a guy was walking around a blockbuster type store and couldn't find anything he liked. He went up to the counter and told the clerk "you've got nothing, zilch, nada" and the clerk said 'we've got Nada THREE'.

When I got my son fallout 3 for christmas that year, I made a fake insert that said Nada 3 on it and wrapped it up.   When he opened it he said "they actually MAKE that???"   It took him a minute to realize I'd replaced the real cover. :)

Sometimes when I am bored and in the mood I will get someone a gift card and put it into a small box and then re-box with larger boxes multiple times making sure to duct tape it every time. It's a lot of fun watching people open the boxes.  ;D

I have never gotten a funny gag gift. I don't think I would really enjoy getting one either.

Not really into gag gifts.  I consider a gift an expression of love - at lest at Christmas.  Gag gifts could be fun on other occasions - like "the first Wed of the month" holiday!

I used to do that for my nieces and newphes.  I would get each one 3 gifts than I would wrap each gift than layer in another box with another gift etc...I had to get creative with the boxes sizes...sometimes I would use hamburger helper boxes or the oatmeal canisters just to keep it funny.  One time I sent my nephew on a 50 step scavenger hunt.  At each clue there was a $1 with another clue.  I had this kid running all over the house...upstairs, outside, down in the basement...it took him nearly an hour to earn that $50.  The cutest ever though was when my aunt got married.  It was her 2nd wedding (her first husband passed) she was in her mid 30's and her fiancee was just about 40 so they didn't need your typical shower gifts.  Instead we gave them a rock around the clock shower.  Every guest invited was issued a time of day...I was given 12:00 Noon.  So I bought her a picnic basket, filled it with everything they would need to go on a picnic together at Noon.  I found some plastic ants from a dollar store and put them in with it...Funny thing was this woman was opening lingerie for all hours of the day.
