I would not get an abortion if faced with an unplanned pregnancy, but having said that, I don't judge those who choose to have an abortion. I'd rather they have the abortion and not bring another child that may end up on welfare and/or jail. The earth is already at maximum capacity and there will be no resources available by the time we are in the year 2050. If China and India consumed electricity, food, and various other resources the way Americans do, we will see a depletion of resources at an alarming rate. There are many ways to prevent pregnancy so it really is incomprehensible people still have unplanned pregnancies. It is utter irresponsibility to not take precautionary steps. I believe in the morning after pill and I hope the government provides it to women who cannot afford it because it's cheaper than supporting another human being. In response to the main topic of this post, my answer is the tax dollars that pay for the abortion are minimal compared to the tax dollars that will have to be used to support a child and the future children that child produces when it grows up and so forth and so on. People do foolish things. I have a vision that will never come to pass about a society in which the government requires a license to have sex in the same way you need one to drive. If you are caught, you pay the consequence (jail time and/or fine). Two types of licenses would be available one to have sex to procreate and another for sex for enjoyment. You can apply for one of the licenses at age 18. Sex under 18 would be illegal. Sex to procreate license would require a person to pass rigid psychological, financial, and physical evaluations to ensure they are fit to parent. If they fail, automatic sterilization if they want to have the sex for enjoyment license. Rapists and child molesters would get automatic death sentences if there is irrefutable evidence of the crimes (excessive victims with matching DNA evidence, video...etc) Those with just one conviction get life without the possibility of parole. In order to cut down costs, arrangements would be made with another country that would house them for a cheaper rate. Mexico comes to mind as a way to outsource correctional facilities. Victims of rape would be given a choice to either have an abortion or the state would support the child and the child's future education. Sterilizing those who have no business having children would reduce government costs and allow the state to subsidize the children conceived through rape. Victims of rape should never be denied the right to abort because they did not ask for that to happen to them. This population control through sterilization won't come to pass until we reach a critical level in population, then the government will have no choice.
