So - people heard that story about the cop helping the homeless man right? And how two days later he was back on the street "homeless/without shoes" again...and he's a veteran.....thoughts about this whole ordeal?

I thought there was more to this story when te homeless man got madaout his picture being taken.
It just goes to show that there are many scam artists out there. He is making it harder for those that are truley homeless to get help.

I actually saw this man the day after the cop bought him the shoes.  It was cold that night and he wasn't wearing shoes.  My friend actually gave him money.  I didn't even realize it was the same man until I read about a follow up story.  I said hey I saw that man!  I was in NYC for a few days visiting a friend.  Turns out the guy wasn't even homeless.

It's such a shame that people do that.  I've given money in the past thinking it would be used for food only to find out the guy walked into a convenience store with a big wad of cash.

Sometimes things is what it is. No one is in this man's mind or chain of thoughts. We will not know of this Vet and what how he became this way. Judge not unless you choose to be judged. That being said I myself have judged others and yes I hold myself to be judged also. However we feel no one is not that person in the mirror.

I think more should be done to help the homeless period. There are way too many homeless people in the US. I don't understand how so much money goes out to help other countries when that many could be used here for our people.

I have also felt the same way when I read about the  millions spent to help other countries. Why cant they fix the homeless situation here first?

The man was shoeless, and the Police officer - out of the goodness of his heart bought a pair of boots for the Homeless man but, if you listened to the Police officer the man told he didn't need them but, he bought them anyway!!This is a testament to the Police officer. I don't even judge the Homeless man as we are calling him, he had an apartment and food to eat. We all say that this is someone scamming you, alot of these people are either addicted to drugs, alcohol or mentally unstable. I used to see this all the time everyday commuting from N Va trough DC to work, this is sometimes a good paycheck for people, that is the shame of it!!
There used to be a guy that was in a wheelchair in front of my building that would have a can and people would give him a few bucks, he did not try to hide it and he wasn't shoeless, he was better dressed than some of the executives coming out the building but, people still gave him money.

i read this story and i read a follow up story. This man turned out to be a veteran who was living in a halfway house but was finally deemed sane enough to live in his own apartment paid for with social security and veteran's benefits. When they asked him where the shoes were he said that he hid them because he didn't want someone to steal them because they were too valuable.
My opinion on this situation is that people are upset because they found out he actually has a place to live. He wasn't the one that said he was homeless. People just made that assumption. I wouldn't say he is a scam artist.

it is a shame, but the majority of these people have more money than the ones that are giving it to them.most, not all,,are druggies and are definitely not homeless.

It seems there is nothing real in the world today or so the media would like for you to think so.

Did anyone ever take the time to think, maybe he sold the shoes for food?
Nobody knows what goes on in anybody's lives but their own.
Yes it is sad people lie about being homeless, but most people don't
Don't be so quick to judge!
What is that saying,  "Don't judge others until you walk in their shoes!"
