Taxes
« on: November 29, 2012, 08:11:10 pm »
How will you be preparing your income tax next year? I usually go to H&R Block because I know someone who works there. Time though, I am thinking of using Turbo Tax. I can save $250 dollars by doing them myself online. I have only heard good things about Turbo Tax, so I hope it works out. We are hoping to purchase another car at this time and every bit helps.

I shudder when I think of them coming up.  Don't know which way to go.

I have always done my own taxes, since I was 18 years old.

I think most people could do their own, if they weren't afraid of making a mistake or being audited.

We go to H&R block or Liberty taxes. Both of them charge a lot, but taxes are so complicated, so we dont have another option.

Here is a tip for you that will save you a bundle. The IRS will do your taxes for you if you have all of your papers in order when you come. This way you don't have to worry about being audited and you won't miss any deductions. You ca call their office to find out if you have to make an appointment. Why pay someone?  ???

Our tax guy costs us $120.

We filed extensions for 5 years. Turns out when you owe the IRS money you owe it to them forever.  When they owe you money they only owe it to you for three years. They got to keep several years of refunds.

jstein2 ~ It seems like there's always someone else doing my taxes. I can only recall a short brief time during college actually doing this headache pain in the butt task every year. Then my husband took over the job till he passed 3yrs ago.I was lucky my Big sis took over while I was literally broken into pieces over my husband's death. Lucky that my Big sis is vic Pres of bbank. She's been doing my taxes for the last 3yrs & yes she does it using Turbo tax program. She says it so easy esp. if you're not super rich & have to account for everything. So, try Turbo tax, I can bet that those ppl @HRS & other tax return services is using something like turbo tax & charging the customer way too high: when the turbo tax program probably cost less than over half of the cost you pay to get tax return services. Also. look around your area, there may be free service being offered. Last yr there was free service for persons who can't afford it @the local college.Well good luck & hoping we all get a return instead of a pay back uncle sam!

I have been using Turbo Tax online for the last few years. I try to get them done before the end of January so I don't have to pay a late fee on my property tax.
