The team which scores the most points by the end of the game, wins.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Why do you want to learn? Eleven people on one side again eleven on the other trying to score points while the other try to keep them from doing it. (Most games have eleven there is such a thing as six man football.) And in mid grades or high school the people are not all men. Men watch it to bond (some women as well), and to have fun, the violence is part of the bonding and so-called fun. The game has positions and is played in time periods. How much do you need to know?

It's probably easier if you have someone explain it to you as you're watching a game so you have the visual

If they have the same score at the end of the 4th period there is an overtime, and every four years ago there it can end in a tie a.k.a. 49ers vs rams

dont watch the carolina panthers they dont know how to play at all.
first they toss a coin to see who gets the ball first. then they try to reach their goal for a touch down, if they make one they get to kick for an extra point. if they get to 4th down they usually kick it back to the other team and let them try for a touch down,

Not too many years ago I would have asked the same question.  However, now I love the season and game.  We watch from home - not interested in going to the game!  My husband has been a great help in my understanding the game.  But it really is pretty simple.  Watching it a lot will help you learn.

Look on youtube if you really want to know.Very confused yesterday and hope alex smith is ok.Don't really want an explanation on the tied game seems unfair though.

This is how I learned also along with asking my dad questions. It is not a very hard sport to learn just like basketball once you know what the rules are and some of the plays.

Did any of this, a game or youtube help? Why were you in such a hurry to learn? A pro., college, h.s. or other football game, which were you planning to watch.

Learning about football is nothing that you are going to be able to do overnight.  It's actually a rather complicated game and the more you learn the more you are going to realize that you still have a lot to learn.  I have been watching or going to football games for over 60 years now and there is still a lot I don't understand.  Anyone who tells you that it's a simple game is an idiot.

Your question is a little too broad.  If you are trying to understand the game as a whole, you should watch a game with someone who understands it and is willing to explain what is going on and answer your questions.  My wife became a fan watching games with me and doing that very thing.
