What do you do with the plastic store bags

i know everyone uses them for garbage  but i ran across an article that said using wax paper ou could iron them together to make a blanket or a table cloth or placemats.   anyways i thought it sounded funny and didnt think that it could be done so i tried it and it worked   lol  it got me to wondering what else i could do with them

And they didn't melt??? I just take them all back to the store (usually Walmart) for recycling.

If you get real creative you could use them as book covers or even wrapping paper for Christmas presents.  Now won't that be fun to see under the tree.

One interesting use I've seen made of plastic bags is to restore demagnetized debit cards at the grocery store!  If you ever swipe your debit card through the reader several times and find that it can't be read, try wrapping one of those plastic grocery bags tightly around the edge of the card with the magnetic strip and then slide the card + the bag through the reader -- it works!

Hey, just so you know, the plastic bag doesn't actually fix demagnetized cards. What it does is helps kinda smooth over rough patches in the magnetic strip. If the magnetic strip is truly demagnetized, the plastic bag sadly won't do anything. 
On the other hand, a couple other things will do this same trick. A little thermal tape from the register (most registers now use thermal tape, that's why they fade). And for all you men out there who have an issue with their cards wearing out quickly in your wallet, if you put a little scotch tape across the magnetic strip of a new card, it'll last longer. Tape will also help you stretch out a card that's already starting to go so it'll last until you get a replacement. Btw, I'm a cashier, which is why I know all these nifty tricks. =)
Back to the plastic bags, some horse trainers use it for desensitizing horses so they don't spook when one goes flying by. I know this is kind of a niche use, but if you ever get to see this for yourself, it's pretty interesting to see how scared a 1/2 ton animal is of a little piece of plastic. And for anyone who decides to toss them into recycling other than the recycling bins found at various stores, please cut the handles before recycling. Bags that make it loose onto the streets or into waterways with their handles intact are exponentially more dangerous to strays and wildlife as the handles can wrap around necks or limbs, causing strangulation or loss of circulation. Otherwise, have fun getting creative!

Mine get used for garbage, garage sales or recycled back to the store.

I also use mine to line my trash can.  Then I'm not spending money for trash can liners.  If I have excess bags I take them to "Care & Share" Food pantry or they end up in a recycling bin.

I don't think I'm ambitious enough to iron them.

Lately my 10 year old has been makeing use of them with her stuffed animals. she has tried to make it like a hammock to rock them to sleep.

I use them for garbage bags.I also pick up my granddaughters at school,so I put their snacks in them before leaving to get them.I have never tried making anything out of them.I do end up throwing some in the trash.Some of the ones here lately are not strong,they are very thin and when I get the groceries in they have holes in the bottom of them.My granddaughters use them for taking there items back and forth home.So we use the majority of them.

I'm not very creative with the store bags.  I reuse them for garbage liners and return them to stores like wal-mart or use them to transport groceries from Aldi.  At Target for every bag you bring in they give you (I believe) $.05 off your bill?  Maybe it's only a penny but it's better than nothing.  The bags that tear just get tossed so now that I think about it making stuff out of them sounds interesting.  Hmmmmm ya got me thinking bout' it now.

Nice to know some of those good tips regarding debit/credit cards.....thanks for sharing!! I also never thought about cutting off the handles from the plastic bags....that's good to know!!
