Forgive me but I have to laugh and that's because men will be men - it seems they mostly all feel the same way!!!!  What about shoes???  Do you get grief for those too???  I know my husband used to complain alot so I would go to the store buy my duds and sneak them into the house and my closet cause after a while he didn't know what was new and what was old!!!!  One problem I managed to overcome was the seasonal clothing thing - I solved that by moving to the Southwest where it's usually warm and sunny so I don't worry about winter gear anymore!!!!  The second problem (or maybe it was the first) was TO GET RID OF THE CRANKY OLD MAN!!!!!  Well, that worked for me but I don't suggest you do - unless you really want to!!!!!  Good Luck!!!!  and HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!

depends on if you're spending money on clothes you dont need or if you already had them lol.

Women always have more clothes than men.  Men will not take time or have the patience to shop wisely for clothes.  They will wear the same thing for years even though it's threadbare.

If you have the money to buy all these clothes, and don't have to credit card them then I say go fo it!!

You need either a larger closet or maybe you can commit to those space savers, such as the multi hanger (assuming your hanger bar can support the excess weight or the bags which sucks out all the air. I cannot vouch for either method as I don't nearly have as much clothes to worry about this.

I live by myself in a 3 bedroom house and I still don't have enough closet space...

Im going through the same thing right now. I do have a lot of clothes and shoes. I have a pair of shoes to match each outfit. The closet is loaded with the majority of my stuff, he expect me to take my stuff out and put it in the attic so he can use the closet. I told him that's not gonna happen, but he can put his clothes and shoes in the attic. Its normal, we're women.

I would recommend closet space savers to help with the closet clutter. If that still doesn't help enough, maybe a little closet trimming might be in order.

asking for a general male perspective (he doesn't mind

i find shopping therapeutic. perhaps that's a problem

I think it's a guy thing.  Even my husband rolls his eyes when I buy something new. He says I buy too much yet he wants every technological toy that comes out. We just recently signed up for new cell phone service. We aquired our new phones on Ebay. Not two weeks after recieving the phone he said he wanted, he found another one and tried to talk me into buying it for him. Don't worry. It comes with the territory.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just as long as you have the money to pay for them

The old trick I've always heard of for closet trimming, or even just determining if you need to, is to take the time to go through every item (maybe go season by season and have a glass of wine while you do to make it less tedious  ), pick out what you haven't used or worn for a set amount time, and toss or donate those items. I've usually heard 6 months, but if you need different clothes for different seasons, a year's probably better. Personally, when I've tried this, I usually ended up finding clothes I'd either forgotten about and still love or had been looking for. So instead of tossing stuff like that, I move it where I'll see it so I can wear it. Or if it needs repairs, I put it out where I'll remember to sew it (I refuse to spend $50 on the only pair of jeans in 4 stores that actually fits me right only to toss them out 6 months later b/c I wore them so much they developed a small hole. Maybe they should have home ec in high school again since I lose so much time figuring out the best way to stitch up some of my clothes).

As a funny side note to everyone saying that taking up all the closet space is a woman thing, my husband probably has at least twice the clothing as I do and more shoes too. Actually, I need to go through his side since I know some of my work shirts are hiding in the middle of his clothes . . . .

I downsized my closet this year with a yard sale and donating items to my church.  (Although I do still have quite a collection of shoes.  I read once that you can wear anything as long as you wear good shoes and carry a nice purse).  My boyfriend, however, is a different story.  He has three closets and three dressers full of clothes.  Many items are from the '80's.  He oversees a men's fashion museum.  He will not part with any items and says he might need them.  For what I can't imagine.  Maybe the moths will eat them.  I can only hope.
