Cable or Dish
« on: October 26, 2012, 04:52:28 pm »
Upset with my local area cable company. Prices keep going up, billing is late, we pay by checking on line, and are paid to date, but there bill does not show credit. Then we found they were charging us for a "fast internet" blah blah, which we did not order. Had to go through get that off, and credit back etc, and our internet is just fine without there what ever they call faster sh....t. But, Now looking to go with Magic Jack for the phone and either Dish or Direct. Only I wonder how good the internet service is. And what hidden charges will be there or will they start increasing charges here and there.

I just want one bill, that I know what it will be so I can budget the rest of my money on my limited income. Come on Corporations, make those that are below the middle class have a chance too.

I hear you loud and clear!!!  I think any company whether it be cable, dish or direct tv end up all being the same crap!!!  They suck you in by promoting "special offers" but read the fine print because it is for a "limited time" and you MUST SIGN UP FOR AT LEAST 2 YRS.  By the way, your promotional offer will only last 6 MOS. then you will BE PAYING HIGHER PRICES (THOSE OF COURSE WILL BE THE CURRENT GOING PRICES)!!!!!  ADDITIONALLY, I WOULD BE REAL CAREFUL WITH MAGIC JACK - I HAVE READ SOME REALLY UNPLEASANT THINGS ABOUT THEM - BUT YOU CAN CHECK THEM OUT YOURSELF BEFORE YOU SIGN UP!!!  Either way, good luck!!!!!

I like cable , but i would prefer a dish, because cable keeps going up on their prices. I currently have cable.

I'll always go with cable because we have Dish at work and it goes out pretty much any time there's snow or heavy rain! The company basically just tells us that's to be expected, which is just ridiculous to me!

I think cable tv is a much better value than dish service.

i think they are similar, people show just have a kinds of movies from previous years so you are stuck always watching the same movies.

It all depends on your area I guess, I would get nervous with satellite because the last time it was at this house it would never get reception and then the satellite company wanted to charge an arm and a leg to come out and move it to try and get reception.  Then when they finally got it to work it would go out when it rained or any type of windy weather.  At my friends house I don't go over a lot anymore but when I used too the few times I was over there he had satellite problems with non-severe weather and it was very frustrating because we were trying to watch sports games.  Stuff like that is what makes me nervous because I don't want to pay a deposit and everything else and then get screwed with the reception in this area for it.  Our cable rarely goes out or has problems and although we pay a little more for it in this area at least it's consistent and it's a month to month contract we can cancel anytime.  If I were to get satellite dish today I would have to pay a deposit, sign onto a contract, and hope I'd have reception.

I enjoy watching sports too but I have ways around it and you can go to any good bar and they will have all the games on anyways.  Also, direct tv is not worth it if the reception always goes out so it all depends on the area.  What may never go out in your area may go out all the time in areas like mine.  The sad fact is direct tv won't let you test it first before they charge you.  They want money up front and deposit before you even know if the reception even works here (which there was dish years ago at this house my parents had and they screwed my father out of a lot of money due to reception issues and them wanting their money no matter what).  Cable keeps going up in price and if that keeps happening I'll be pushed to satellite but I have a feeling it'd be the same aggrevation with reception issues.  Then you are stuck paying for something you can't even use.

I haven't had cable or satellite in years. I have my computer hooked to my TV and stream TV from sites like Hulu or youtube. I like this method because I buy the internet connection anyway and it isn't any extra money. To supplement I also get blockbuster two disks at a time and that seems to take care of my needs for shows or entertainment.

I have cable at the moment but I personally prefer Direct TV. I had them before I moved into my current place and absolutely loved them and was paying about half of what I am paying for cable now. I would have kept them but I had no choice because of the direction of my new home.

I currently do not have t.v. service.  I think its a shame to pay for something that used to be free, and now there is nothing on worth the price to watch.  I will use the net, or radio.
