Where is the?
« on: October 23, 2012, 01:07:37 pm »
I like a Good Big Bang Theory, I also like Two men and a Half. OK yeah I loved Seinfeld also, even a good Friends show. But where is the Black people in the upcoming shows and the shows that have been out for a while. I like Burn Notice, Wow Jesse entered the show, plus one of the guys who burned Michael.. I like Covert Affairs hmmm I don't think I seen a Black spy. I love alot of the shows that are out but what they are missing is some color may it be Black, Indian, etc..
There are new shows coming out and New now out with 1 black person in it Guys with kids, The New Normal, etc. Do Hollywood think that if they put a Person of color in there, they think Black's etc will watch it or think that their making a contribution of some sort.. Now before you go all half crazy on me, there is many blacks and other nationalities that can play parts in tv shows and movies. I keep looking for Waldo (different nationalities). Thank goodness we have Tyler Perry and many others who actually think that sometimes you can out side your lil box.

Why does it matter what color the actors are on TV shows? Are we not all human? I find it ironic that despite huge civil gains, race is still such a defining factor in virtually every segment of life.

Actually, I have seen more and more "color" or nationalities on t.v. shows, movies, and there are many new comedy, medical, drama, and/or talk shows, in which there is a great fairness to all.  So I'm not quite sure where you are coming from with this.

What I was saying is that when I watch some of the shows I may see 1 or 2 person of color. There is no shows like the Cosby's or like Good times and even the Jefferson's. They have Tyler Perry shows that have made new shows with Black Family's and such but most of them are going away and there nothing really replacing them except re-runs. Like Are we there yet. The shows that were made was made black by Black people. When is Hollywood gonna get the big picture and really cross the fence even with Hispanic shows like George Lopez is no longer doing new shows of his show and there is nothing to replace it. Reason I say this is because I don't want my son thinking that there are not any Black family or Hispanic family or even other nationalities shows that can be watched and learned from. As to how on this earth there is many colors and some of us live different ways, different foods eaten. The interaction it may show of how different people deal with maybe same problems. There is a lesson taught in many shows and there is a better understanding if there being played by someone of his same color or other nationalities. As to not get the wrong idea that Black Family's and Hispanic's only exist in what we speak about and not being shown good examples of.That my is thought. I wasn't trying to be calling any nationality out, plus I wasn't trying to bash anyone. A reality show is not portraying real issues, to me they are just drama shows for a quick buck.

Race is always gonna be a factor in everyday life because even though we may have made progress, there is still a long way to go. If you haven't learned anything from this years election then you haven't been paying attention to a lot of things around you even the small ones. No you don't have to be looking for them but they are there hiding in plain sight.

There are several minority represented TV shows like The Game, Lets Stay Together, and Read Between the Lines.  All are on BET, which has become the new UPN/WB when it comes to sitcoms starring minorities.  I find it surprising that in a world where race relations are better that there is not a minority sitcom on a major broadcast network.  The last one they tried was a sitcom with Michael Strahan.  I like Michael Strahan, but they shouldn't have expected success on the show.  With Strahan on Live with Kelly and Michael, now would be a decent time to try him on a sitcom, but years ago it wasn't.

That was my main point which I didn't point out. That if it wasn't for cable etc... we wouldn't see these shows like on BET, TV1, Centric. Only the Black folks contribute to the shows and get them on channels that are mainly owned and or run by Black people. I don't even really watch those main channels like 2,4,5,7,11,13 because they have shows I either cant get into liking or is just not my type of show.

I'm guessing that when the executives and writers come up with a new show that passes muster and gains interest of the t.v. viewers, that there will be new shows like what you are looking for.  I know that several are always in the works, but some don't make it long.

There's always re-runs, too!  Most of my favorite shows are re-runs from the past!

The biggest problem is that minority shows just have not done well on major broadcast networks in this and the past decade.  Cosby did fairly well despite starring a man who was past his TV shelf life date.  The Bernie Mac show, on the other hand, didn't do that well viewer wise.  Would a situational comedy or drama with Mos Def bring in viewers?  Who knows, but I'd like to see it.  Bring in Donald Glover as his brother, and it would make must watch TV.  In today's world there's more crossover between movie and television actors.  I'd like to see some black movie actors making their way to television.  I think a 24 type show with Don Cheadle or Wesley Snipes would be interesting.

I would love to see Wesley and Don Cheadle in a tv show. I also would like to see Mos Def in one, I think he did very well in that movie with Bruce Willis, I think its called 10 Blocks or something. I would like also to see Chris Rock or Chris Tucker do a comedy, I'm sure we would get a laugh out of them.

I love Tyler Perry.  Here's some interesting data about him:

"Good Deeds is a romantic drama film written, directed by and starring Tyler Perry. The film was released on February 24, 2012. It is the eleventh out of thirteen films directed by Perry that he appears in."

The Cast includes:

    Tyler Perry as Wesley Deeds
    Thandie Newton as Lindsey Wakefield
    Gabrielle Union as Natalie
    Eddie Cibrian as John
Brian J. White as Walt Deeds
    Jordenn Thompson as Ariel
    Phylicia Rashad as Wilimena
    Beverly Johnson as Brenda
    Rebecca Romijn as Heidi
    Jamie Kennedy as Mark Freeze
    Andrew Masset as Mr. Brunson
    Victoria Loving as Mrs. Brunson
    Tom Thon as Milton
