Bills and other essentials (i.e. gas, groceries) seem to take a huge dent in my paycheck. Unfortunately my poor annual increases are not compensating for the rise in inflation. I'm not sure how well I would fare if my family structure wasn't dual income. I sometimes envy certain past decades where food and housing was so much cheaper in comparison to people's earnings.
Agreed. Bills and other bare essentials.
I recently landed another part time job, but had to lay out $50.00 to get the right color clothes. This was before I started working. My boss was surprised, when she tried to call my cell phone (my only telephone) and she couldn't get through. I told her well it was either buy the clothes or pay the cell phone bill. She thought since these were the "in thing" according to the latest fall fashion reports that everyone would have brought at least one set of clothes in these colors. (Apparently she changes the dress code yearly thinking she is doing everyone a favor.) Later she had this discussion in a staff meeting, I found it interesting that I wasn't the only one that made trade-offs to start working for her. She was just shocked. According to my co-workers, her attitude as changed considerably since the meeting.
When things are tight, you have to make sacrifices and trade-offs. Currently, I have no room for medical issues or clothes in my budget. Both are brought on "as need" basis, then only with a trade-off. One positive things about this, is that I have learned to budget very well. I have learned to do without. I do things to save on washing and the wear and tear of clothes. Let's just say I am glad I live alone.

I wish you all the best.

P.S. Before any one starts harping on the fact I have internet, I want to speak about that. I have it because I tutor via Skype (a free program) and use free resources from the internet to prepare lessons. I am not going to get rich doing this, but it helps with the overall income.
