Star-Kist Foods, Inc. appointed In-Soo Cho as its new president and CEO. Tuna prices have reached an all-time high, along with the increased cost of transportation and other ingredients, they made a change. Instead of increasing the price, they decreased the can size. It will save two million gallons of water a year, only taking out two teaspoons of tuna from each can. Tuna has history of being downsized. Once tuna came in 7 ounce cans, cans were downsized to 6 oz. "...What had originally consisted of solid pieces of chunk light tuna, became a mush of too little fish and too much ocean..." The company started in 1917 was based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It had 40% overall market share of the U.S canned tuna business, StarKist / Heinz had been dominating the retail tuna business. Del Monte, acquired StarKist in 2002. Dongwon Group in South Korea purchased Starkiss for $300 million in 2008. The FDA wanted records to determine StarKist's actual defects in manufacturing. The day FDA was sending its warning letter, Dongwon installed a new president In-Soo Cho. StarKist, Chicken of the Sea and Bumble Bee agreed to pay $3.3 million collectively to settle civil claims in August 2012.

I always had good experiences with their tuna, but I guess it has been a little while since I purchased any.  Sorry you have had such rotten experiences with them.

I never buy tuna in the cans. Prefer the foil packets. It is all tuna and no oil or water. The way things are going they will mess it up. But right for your money buy the packets.

I've always bought Starkist tuna in water and have been very pleased with it.  I don't eat nearly as much tuna as I used to but still enjoy it every once in a while.  Sorry you had such a bad experience and do hope it was only a fluke.

First world problems! lol

Yeah crap happens. I once got a box of Apple Jacks with 2 dead bees in it. I called to let them know and they sent me some free coupons too. I still eat Apple Jacks though. Companies make mistakes.
