I saw the full moon, but didn't know it was a "blue moon" as in the second full moon in the month.

I noticed the moonbeam shining on our patio table and checked out the moon.

It was cloudy by us, so we missed it.  The next blue moon isn't until 2015.

Nope, didn't see it...Neither did I see the "Super Moon" or any other rare moon. They all look the same to me and I am one of those people that actually look up at the sky and make note of such events...Maybe I don't live in the right area...When it was announced that we were going to have a "blue moon", I rolled my eye's LOL.

Also, there is such a thing as a visibly blue moon, caused by smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere, as after forest fires or volcanic eruptions. However, the moon more often appears to "turn red", and a blue moon is a rare event.
Ash and dust clouds thrown into the atmosphere usually contain a mixture of particles with a wide range of sizes, with most smaller than 1 micrometer, and they tend to scatter blue light.
These clouds make the moon visibly red.

The key to a blue moon is having lots of particles slightly wider than the wavelength of red light and no other sizes present.

Thus red moons are far more common than blue moons.
